Logan had such a great time with Grandma and Grandpa K this weekend! He kept every0ne entertained and was generally full of smiles. He was a little bit of comic relief when the home improvements got intense and difficult. Everything was more, more, more, constantly…more books, more blocks, more cantalope, more grandma and grandpa!

He especially loved his night alone with Grandma and Grandpa while Peter and I were out at a party…I think they were trying to get him ready for future parties, with all these cups – he’ll be a pro at college party games! ;)

Sully-20110528-00033

Building was the theme of the weekend…he loved blocks with Grandma too!

Thanks, Grandma and Grandpa K! We can’t wait to see more of you soon!

Shortcuts

Life moves in hyperspeed around here these days. So we’ve found lots of ways to take shortcuts…I shower at night, I meal prep a ton over the weekends, I make all of our lunches on Sunday (Yes, that means I eat a sandwich on Friday that was made on Monday. It’s fine. ), and now that the weather is nice I walk with Logan for my exercise instead of doing the elliptical, which takes extra time when he’s asleep.

So, it’s only fitting that when I’m trying really hard to be supermom and make a special weekend breakfast I take a shortcut too, right?

IMG_3880

I know, I know, it’s not the same. But we leave those delicious homemade wonders to the Grandmas, who both make fabulous pancakes, no shortcuts.

Logan was so embarrassed at first, that I wasn’t quite measuring up…

IMG_3881

He managed to get over it when he tasted the deliciousness, which he helped create thanks to some great shaking skills!

IMG_3878-1

We are having a great weekend with Grandma and Grandpa K! You don’t see any pictures of them playing with Logan because we have all been so busy! We are working SO hard on getting the house ready that we just take turns playing with Logan (ahem, the best job) and cleaning/fixing/etc. Logan did have a FABULOUS night with them last night and we had a great time with friends. I got no pictures of last night, so failed to live up to my paparazzi nickname…

Hope you’re having a great weekend! There’s another whole day left!

Friday Night Leftovers

leftoversbutton

I feel as though these things are extra random today…

  • Can we stop the thunderstorms? Ever since that tornado in Missouri it’s really been freaking me out. And I grew up and went to college in places that actually have a good number of tornados.  The ones that happen in the darkness completely freak me out.
  • I would really like to stop having to pee in the middle of the night.
  • One of my kiddos was so excited about something we were doing in school that his parents actually rearranged their vacation schedule today…who knew honey taste testing was so exciting?
  • Logan’s still having, um, diaper issues. We’re trying probiotics now, to see if that makes a difference.
  • I went to Whole Foods to get those probiotics and didn’t have our reuseable grocery bags in the car. I always feel extra guilty when I need a bag at Whole Foods!
  • One of my little girls refused to play at recess today because she didn’t want to get her new shoes dirty. They were awfully cute pink shoes. We’ll add that to the list of things I probably won’t need to worry about as the mom of a boy.
  • I’m thinking of inventing a high chair with an extra wide tray so kids can’t just put their hand to the side and drop things on the floor, even if it is “accidentally” (I’m on to you, Logan!). Think it’ll get me a million dollars?
  • I only have one “mad money” thing left – a new diaper bag. And I really hope I don’t run into any mad money soon, because I can’t find one I want with good reviews at all. Suggestions welcome.

Happy Friday! Enjoy the long weekend. For more leftovers, visit Danifred!

Thankful on Thursday

We are busy, busy, busy here at the Z house…but there’s always time for some thankfulness!

  • Artwork for my refrigerator -  I have a gorgeous fish that Logan colored at school, love it, of course!
  • Progress – We’re making our way towards putting our house on the market, hoping to upgrade a bit, and we’ve made some really good steps this week!
  • Finding the monitor – I will admit that I have baby monitor issues, as in, we have a video monitor but also have an AngelCare monitor  that we used too, until he was about 8 months old and moving too much in the crib. We still use that one occasionally, since the video monitor messes with our wireless. We have 2 handsets and I couldn’t find either after the painters, but I found one tonight! So now I’ve got 2/3 monitors, getting closer!
  • Grandma and Grandpa K are coming this weekend! We are so excited!
  • We had to use Grandma and Grandpa F for two long evenings after work this week, and they were super helpful, as always!
  • Chicken Fajitas – haven’t made them in a while, and wow, yum!
  • Health insurance – Something happened this week that made me realize how lucky we are to have health insurance, something we definitely take for granted. When Logan gets hurt or sick we only have to think about how to help him, not worry about our finances/house/bills. I can’t imagine.
  • My class – this time of year even the best of classes starts to make you a little nutty. We’ll really be in trouble after the pools open this weekend, we always lose them after that. They still manage to make me laugh a lot too though!
  • Dinner last week with the bestie and her hubby…it was a much needed night out with friends – and we get to do it again this weekend, plus even more friends!
  • The knowledge that my worries make people not feel so awful about their worries! As in, that they can talk to me when they are worried about silly things because they know I’ll understand. I like that my worry can be useful! ;)
  • Triple Paste. We would have a very uncomfy baby without  it!
  • 14.5!!! 14.5!!! 14.5!!!

Happy Friday!

Weekend in Review

There was coloring…

IMG_3821

There were “Chee-i-os”

IMG_3827

There was swinging, which almost made me cry because my head automatically made this comparison:

2011-05-21

There was a fabulous dinner and DQ with Bestie and our hubbies.

There was a little boy who slept until 6:45 this morning for Grandma and Grandpa F, when he woke up at 4:30am Saturday for mommy!

There was a sad mommy when she was at the grocery store by herself and Logan was with Grandma and Grandpa…because it is just boring to shop and not talk about all of the food that you see!

There was a pull up bar attached to a door that Peter hung from…which actually helped his back quite a bit!

There were, unbelieveably, two people who actually offered to mow our lawn after my blog post on Friday! Luckily Peter was able to mow today!

There was a house put back in order, finally, after painting.

There were a few extra minutes in bed this morning, to just be lazy and read.

There was a call with Grandma and Grandpa K, and I really think Logan things they live in the computer. Every time he sees a computer he says, “Gamma? Gamma?” He will be so excited to see them for real next weekend!

There were lunches made, laundry done, workouts completed.

There was a weekend – Whew. It came and went, but it was good, good, good! Hope yours was too!

Cat Nap

This is what happens when you wake up at 4:30am and then your mommy decides to take you for a walk around 8:30am…

downsize

Yep. We got back and he was still snoozing away. I pulled up to the front steps and sat down and watched him, and realized I could have just kept walking, but since I had been up since 4:30 too and there wasn’t anybody to push me in a stroller, I just sat down and watched his fabulousness.

Oh, and I thoroughly ADORE my City Mini. Best stroller ever. Clearly Logan also finds it acceptable.  He only slept for a little bit, but he found it quite comfy!

Logan is napping away (again, see, 4:30!) and now I might just do the same. Hope you’re having a great weekend!

Friday Night Leftovers

leftoversbutton

Oh brain, the things that bump around in you…

  • Logan is doing better, just that lingering cough.  He now has the worst case of diaper rash ever, because of diaper events this week. He never has diaper rash. I hate it.
  • Our music teacher played the conch shell at lunch today. As in, there was a conch shell sitting on the table from a breakfast decoration (which in itself, is interesting…) and she just picked it up and belted out a note. It was so bizarre and surprising and I think I laughed so hard I had tears!
  • No one noticed my ugly grapes. Whew.
  • Peter somehow hurt his back today. As in, it hurts to even stand up. Boo. Anyone want to come mow the lawn? I volunteered, but Peter, for some reason, did not want to make a trip to the ER for my asthma attack that would follow.
  • All these young teenage girls (like 14/15) were talking about how cute Logan was when we were out running an errand tonight. And I mean, he’s cute and all, but I really don’t want him to encourage any teenage pregnancies. I wanted to shout, “Yes, he’s wonderful…but I’m 30 and sometimes wonder what the heck I’m doing, go play hopscotch!”
  • I REALLY want to see so many of my shows that are locked up on the DVR that is not plugged in right now. I may never actually see Biggest Loser again…don’t anybody tell me what happens!
  • We got our microwave installed! True to our delivery person luck lately, they arrived at 6:00pm on a Friday night. But hey, it’s done!
  • Logan is now thoroughly addicted to Thomas the Tank Engine. It’s an addiction I can get behind. You know, nice and non-violent, good, clean, boy fun.
  • There are middle/high school kids in our neighborhood who think it’s fun to play with guns. They look alarmingly real. And honestly, we live in a pretty good area. And I just am not a fan of playing with guns. That’s why Thomas is looking pretty good!

Thankful on Thursday

Because you knew this was coming, and you are oh so excited to see what I’m  thankful for this week, right?
  • Progress - Logan seems to be on the mend. He hasn’t had a fever at all today, but oh, that cough. Yucky, yucky stuff. If we could just get rid of that we’d be doing great!
  • The wonderful hubby/daddy – Last night at about 10 Logan woke up and so I went to sit with him for a while. Peter came in around 10:20 and took him to the steamy bathroom for his cough, then said he’d handle it for a while. Fast forward to 4:30am, when I wake up, and Peter is still not in bed. I check the video monitor and find Logan in his crib, Peter sleeping on the floor next to him. And then I fell in love with my husband all over again.
  • Breakfast – Grade levels take turns doing breakfast at school on Fridays. We’re up tomorrow and I’m grateful that a couple weeks ago I just picked bagels and fruit. Because I was going to try to be all adventurous and cook, but wow, with our week, so glad I didn’t do that!
  • Letting Go – I’m thankful that I’m trying to learn to do this more. My grapes for tomorrow are not “pretty” – they taste great, I tried them! A few years ago I would have been mad and gone to buy new grapes. It’s the small things that show we’re making improvements, right? ;)
  • A sweet parent – I have a parent from last year who is also an employee in our school district. I ran into her before school today and had such a good conversation with her about Logan and my feelings this morning. It was perfect timing!
  • Everyone at school – Seriously, thank you so much for asking about us, helping with my lesson plans, and just being all around awesome. There are closer schools I could teach at, but they would never measure up!
  • Big Bang Theory –  I love that show. I mean, come on, any show that can work in Ice, Ice, Baby is just perfection.
  • Weekend plans – We have some fun ones, including dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Bestie for Bestie’s birthday! So excited to celebrate and have a fun night out!
  • 19.5 BRING IT ON. We’re SO close! Testing starts next week, which makes it REALLY close!

It Appears Our Bug Has a Bug

These pictures sum up our day today:

IMG_3814

Just doesn’t look like his usual sunny self, huh? He’s been a little quieter than usual, but don’t worry too much, that picture was taken at a particularly pathetic looking moment. He’s had a cough for a couple days, but this morning it was a little barky and he had a fever. So I stayed home with him and we went to the doctor, since we always worry about him wheezing. No wheezing, but in case it turns croupy (which we’ve had before, so we know) she gave us a steroid, but we haven’t used that yet. His fever has been up to 102.5, with motrin. He has also had  a bit of an unsettled tummy (that’s my nice way of saying it) so we’ve gone through lots of diapers and even a sheet change.

The doc said they’ve had lots of people in with high fevers (up to 104) lasting up to four days over the past few weeks, so it sounds like it’s a virus, with cold like symptoms too. I’m really hoping we can avoid that 104 degree temp, because even though I know the books all say it’s not about the degree of the fever, I don’t think any mom feels comfortable when that thermometer starts creeping up.

We have been SO lucky with Logan being relatively well since December – this is the first day of school he’s missed since then. Hopefully he’ll be back to his sunny self soon!

Thanks to everybody who helped in my classroom today!!!

Dinner and a Show

Little does Logan know that you’re really supposed to pay big money for this kind of entertainment. I’ll keep you in suspense until the end, but here were his reactions…

“Uh, WHAT is that?”

IMG_3790

“Hey! Mom! Are you seeing this? You’re exposing me to THIS?”

IMG_3799

“Oh all right, all right, it’s hilarious!”

IMG_3791

What, you ask, was he watching?

IMG_3801

Peter, doing the running man to Boys II Men.

I told you, never a dull moment…and this is why, even in the middle of cooking dinner, my camera has to be close by!

Never A Dull Moment

Here’s a snapshot of why things are ALWAYS exciting at the Z house:

  • 5am: “Mommy? Mommy? Lalalala. Wooo! Baaa! Bus! Abby? Daddy? Bus!” And then the babbles just continue, happy as can be, until 5:30.
  • 6am, getting out of shower, there is banging on door: “Mommy? Mommy?” I open the door - “Mommy!” and Peter leaves him in the bathroom with me while I finish brushing my teeth, and he pulls off you know, about half the toilet paper…
  • 6:30am: “Abby?” Said while looking under the bed. Me: “I don’t think she’s under there buddy.” Logan: “Uhhh…Mommy?” At which point he hands me one of the parts of the bed that you know, KEEP IT UP in the middle and all. And I hand it to Peter and say, “Uh, I think the painters forgot to put the bed all the way back together – did we almost fall out last night?” And he responds, “Nah, only you almost fell out.”
  • 6:45am - Me:“Logan, bring my lunch box into the kitchen please.” Logan:  “Color, color, color?” – said as he pulls a picture from one of my kids out of my bag. Me: “Oh, yeah, H. made that for you.” Then…RRRIIIIPPPP…  Me: “Uh, okay, you didn’t like it so you’re ripping it? I won’t tell her…”
  • 7:15am, driving to school: “BUS! BUS! BUS! Bye Bye Bus! Hi Bus! Bus! Bus!” (x5000, seeing as how we are going to school at the same time as a billion kiddos).

And, you know, that’s just in the first few hours we’re awake! I’ve said before that sometimes I feel like I’m on a hamster wheel. I always think, okay, just get us to _____ and then things will calm down. Ha. It never happens. So I figure I have two options. I can freak out about it, or I can just go with it and realize this is just life, and see all the absolute fabulousness that is in it.

In all fairness, last night I stressed about IT (You know…my house is a mess! We have to put this on the market! I have to do laundry! I need a million dollars! I need to be Supermom! I need to do MORE, BETTER, etc…) and my face was a big red mess with hives and all. Today, we have zero hives so far.

Hey, for a Monday, that’s pretty good.

Home Sweet Home

Well, the painters finally finished and Logan and I got to come home! We loved being with Grandma and Grandpa F of course, but you know, we crave our routine in this family. The house is smelly…and he has been talking to himself now for quite a while while trying to fall asleep because his door is open to help with the smell and well, he’s not used to that. We’ll see what happens. I will most definitely be saying, “SHHHH! Be quiet!” 10,000 times tonight to Peter and myself. Usually we close his door almost all the way and with the noise machine don’t worry at all about being too loud. 8:06 and not asleep is VERY unusual for him, we’ll see how long this talking lasts! Hopefully we can close the door tomorrow.

Grandma F and I seized the few moments of sunshine today to take Logan to the park at their nearby elementary school. I love this one piece of equiptment because it’s meant  for the real little guys, there are no openings once you get up there (you know, for poles to slide down or whatever) besides the slide. He was quite content to run up and down the ramp.

downsize

downsize-1

He was moving WAY too fast to get a good picture of him looking at me, besides, they are with my phone. He LOVES being outside and is quite sad when “it’s raining” (his first two word phrase!).

Off to eat some dinner and try to figure out how to put the house back together! Have a great week!

Saturday, May 14, 2011

Awww, Daddy!

Well, we still can’t go home. The painters are not done and Logan’s room is wrapped in plastic with all of the furniture pushed into the middle of the room. I am slightly on edge because he had been doing SO well going down to bed at night ever since we got back from spring break – and now we’ve been at Grandma and Grandpa F’s house for 2 nights and both nights I’ve had to “help” him get to sleep. If they’re not done tomorrow night we’re just tearing the plastic off and putting all the furniture back – they’ll have to redo it later!

So Peter has been at home, with them, and we’ve been at Grandma and Grandpa F’s. We stopped by to see Peter this morning, and then tonight we went to meet him for dinner and Logan was SO excited to see daddy!

First he had to show off how dirty he could get (and put chicken in his hair?)…

IMG_3749

IMG_3754

“Daddy, daddy, daddy!”

IMG_3756

Then daddy taught Logan how to hit Grandpa with a balloon…

IMG_3765

IMG_3769

We went to get some ice cream too – it was yummy, even in the drizzle!

Thanks for watching the house, daddy! We miss you!

Friday Night Leftovers

leftoversbutton

  • Oh, Blogger, you caused such confusion! Blogger was down for almost 24 hours, deleted posts, ugh, it was messy. But the funniest (not really!) part was how lost I felt. I missed all of you! ;)
  • Has anybody else read the Tiger Mom book?  I did a few months ago, just because I was curious about all the hoopla. I realized I never talked about it. It’s on What Would You Do? right now, seeing how bystanders react when a mom demands perfection, says an A- is stupid. Thank goodness I wasn’t one of those bystanders!
  • Did you know spell check just ignored hoopla? I didn’t realize it was  real word!
  • Today Logan said, “It’s raining.” And then I died of cuteness.
  • Speaking of, it is going to rain all weekend. Ugh. Now, in two months when it is 95 degrees all day, this will look good – but right now, I’d like those nice 75 degree days back, please!
  • Logan’s shorts were too big today. Shorts he’s worn probably five times before. However, I did not freak out (well, not much) about weight loss, I’ve decided to chalk it up to a jump in height? Maybe? He seems taller? We’ll see (as if you thought I’d be able to just let.it.go and ignore it).
  • It seems SO bizarre to me that we’re at my parents tonight and Peter’s at our house, because of the paint (see below). We miss Peter!
  • Since we’re at my parents house it took Logan a LONG time to get to sleep…and I might have fallen asleep with him. Oops. I woke up, but we’ll see if I make it to 10pm!

Ugh, I have boring leftovers tonight. For more exciting leftovers, visit Danifred!

Thankful on Thursday

Here we go!

  • Restaurants – Apparently when they paint your house they put plastic EVERYWHERE and tape it to your cabinets and they might like it if it’s still there tomorrow…so we got to go out to eat instead! I love HAVING to go out, no guilt over not eating at home!
  • Parents – Um, low odor paint? Not so low odor. Which means when they paint upstairs tomorrow Logan and I will be staying with Grandma and Grandpa F instead.
  • More Parents – Grandma and Grandpa K are coming to see us and spend a whole weekend helping with Logan so we can get even MORE house stuff done!
  • My terribly smart child who can so clearly read by now, right(he looks so intense!)? And my very firm belief that he can be WHATEVER he wants to be when he grows up, I just want him to be happy!

      downsize

  • The bestie telling me about pinterest.com, which now means I will have no time in my life to do anything else, ever. I mean really, in the first two seconds I was on it I saw this: http://pinterest.com/pin/21962635/ , and seriously, even I could do that.
  • A couponing 101 lesson (and even some starter coupons!) from Ashley. I can do it, I just know it!
  • I lost count of Logan’s words. I didn’t mean to, I was really going to keep track of how many he had (partially just to keep you all entertained). Now there are too many. And I am WAY thankful for that.
  • Inspiring moms: http://paperclipsandplaypens.com/?p=2220 I found this blog through another that I read, and only read the Williams Syndrome post, but WOW. I read it because I have a cousin with Williams, but so many of the things she writes make me think of parents we work with at school who have children with special needs, and all the thoughts and questions they deal with on a daily basis. Really, really good post.
  • 23.5 – that means next week we’ll be in the teens. WOAH!

Happy, Happy, Happy Friday!

Just Dance

I had this whole idea about writing a post about trying to balance everything in life (ha) and it was going to be all deep and so inspirational (ha again, it was going to be "help!”).

Then Logan decided he would dance and I thought you would find that WAY more entertaining. I at least found it to be a good distraction…who knew all of the fun that could be had while bath water was running?

IMG_3741

IMG_3742

IMG_3744

Cause with that cute face who needs balance? Just more of that please!

Here’s a little video to go with it…he is running races I think, I have to see if they are doing this at school, it is so cute! And I promise all that background noise is the bath water running!

So ya know, just dance, we’ll forget about all that other heavy stuff, okay?

Happy Wednesday!

Monday, Monday…

Monday started off  beautifully. One of my students parents coordinated a little teacher appreciation gift for me and had each of my students bring my a flower. They also sent me a vase with a sweet note attached. The final product when they all came together was so beautiful!

IMG_3696

Just like my class – all different, but a fabulous group when you put them all together (cue cheesy music)!

It was a great start to a Monday. Something happened later that irritated me to no end and just, well, annoyed me. I am trying hard to learn to let it go, let it go, let it go…

But guess what. When I got home I told Logan about it and he said:

IMG_3686

“Grrr, let me at ‘em!”

Nice to know the kid has my back, don’t mess with mommy or her friends! ;)

(Oh all right, I know it looks a little like a smile. But he’s vicious people, just vicious).

Here’s to one more Monday down! Four to go!

Sunday, May 8, 2011

Blessed.

I think I’ve cried three times today. I am honestly just so overwhelmed sometimes by how blessed we have been and how much I just adore this little boy…

IMG_3642

Peter made me a little Mother’s Day video and of course that started the tears. It included my favorite pics of Logan and I…

IMG_1085

IMG_1359

IMG_3597

Having this wonderful little boy has been life changing. I know every mother would tell you that – it changes everything. But he has just changed my whole outlook on the world. He has truly taught me the meaning of the word perspective. Here’s what my fortune cookie said last night:

IMG_3667

“Your dearest wish will come true.” It already did.

I have a WONDERFUL mother and mother-in-law, who both have taught me so much about being a mom. They have also taught me to trust myself, never try to push their ideas about raising children on me, and love all of us unconditionally.

Being a mom has been more than I ever expected. I have a little boy who is SO happy 95% of the time, and who I can usually find a way to help that other 5% of the time. He has taught me to trust myself, to dance sillier, to laugh more, and to slow down. I’ve learned that less sleep actually just equals more cuddles.  I may never get over that feeling of hearing him say “Mommy?” when I’m not right in the room but in earshot. It still gives me goose bumps every time.

See, to me, Mother’s Day isn’t really about me. Yes, I got some extra time to sleep today (thanks honey!), my fabulous Ergo, a video that made me all teary,  and some beautiful cards.

But the real star of the day is this smiling face…who makes being his mommy just the most incredible experience I could ever imagine.

IMG_3651

Blessed.

Friday Night Leftovers

leftoversbutton

Here’s what I’ve got left in my head today…

  • Neighborhood Yard Sale tomorrow! I usually do not get in to this type of thing, but I’m really excited about looking tomorrow. I’m in search of a water table for the deck!
  • One of my students (we’ll call her M) has a 6 week old sister. Her mom brought her in for show and tell today. And one of my boys said, “I think she’s going to be just as beautiful as M when she grows up.” Too cute.
  • Logan’s newest word = color. And he is obsessed. Color wonder markers are our new favorite thing. I’ve spent way too much time pondering how they work.
  • This time tomorrow we should have a new stove! Seeing as how I almost burnt the house down last weekend, that’s good news (I set the oven to 350…it went up to 500).
  • I have a date with Peter to watch Harry Potter tonight…the last one is the only one we didn’t see in the theater, and we are ready to finally see it! Now I just have to figure out how to stay awake!
  • Did you know there are only 13 Oprah’s left? The whole season is on the upstairs DVR…
  • I need the weather to just pick a temperature and stay there! I hate trying to figure out what kind of clothes to dress Logan in. I however, am DONE with long pants, and haven’t worn any since spring break, despite some REALLY cold mornings!
  • We planted lima beans for our plant unit today. If we could all just cross our fingers that they all grow, that would be great. It is so awful when one kiddo seems to just have defective beans! And somehow even when we replant, those are still no good…
  • 28.5 days left!!!!!!

Visit Danifred for more leftovers!

Thankful on Thursday

It’s that time again! A few wonderful people have done Thankful on Thursday on their own blogs, and mentioned my name…and I have to be honest and tell you I have no idea where it came from. It was another blog, not my own idea.  But I do love, love, love seeing what everyone is thankful for! I do it because when I was pregnant with Logan it helped my anxiety a lot to repeat over and over all the things that went “right” that day or the things that I was thankful for. And it helped again when I was full of more anxiety when he was actually here.  I forget to do it some days – which is why I am pretty faithful about it on Thursdays!

Here’s this week’s list!

  • Logan’s learned to give kisses!
  • The ladies I eat lunch with! My 12:05 – 12:35 gals are a lot of fun. You never know, as a teacher, what you’re gonna get at your lunch time in the teacher’s lounge.  This year, we manage to laugh a lot !
  • Recess…I really enjoy getting outside for 20 minutes in the middle of the day. Don’t get me wrong, it’s for the kids, but hey, a little fresh air is good for this teacher too!
  • People who really are passionate about their job – I went to an information session tonight for a class I am hoping to take next year, and the women that are leading it clearly LOVE what they do. I’m hoping I get to take it, because those are my favorite classes, when the instructors are excited!
  • Every0ne who said nice things about my craft project. Thanks for humoring me!
  • A wonderful parent of one of my students, who sent me an incredibly sweet email this week, so much so that I printed it and told Peter to remind me of it on the days I am having a hard time working. Obviously, none of us do it for the money…but those moments, those emails, make it all worth it.
  • Sleep. Shhh, don’t talk about it. But yes, sleep (you know, for the kidd0 – mine, ehhh, stinks…but his is more important!).
  • Peter, for humoring me and going along with my plan for moving us forward…or trying to! :)
  • Dance parties with my favorite boys. Makes coming home just the best!

Happy Friday! It’s gonna be a great one, I just know it! ;)

Watch Out World…

In my quest to become supermom (HA, HA, HA) I recently said that I should do some crafts. Because moms do crafts.

Let’s be clear…I am not creative. People always think that because I teach first grade I have this whole artsy/creative side. No. That’s why my mom helps in my classroom when I put it together in August! :) She’s the crafty one. She tries to rub off on me, but it seems I have just missed that gene.

Today I decided I’d do it. I was going to make a craft with Logan. It’s teacher appreciation week, and I decided we’d make  cards for his teachers. There was finger paint involved people – it was a bold first step.

Logan was a little unsure…

Then he had to closely examine it…

Then he was really confused when it was gone.

I know you’re dying to see the results…it is SUPER cheesy and I know, lame. But hey, he’s one. And I’m really working on this whole “perfection is not necessary, it’s the thought that counts” thing.  Ignore that slip of paper on the top, I was hiding his teachers name from the internet. ;)

So we made the petals with his fingerprints…

And then a flower with his hand!

So yes, now I am going to consider myself oh-so-crafty and wear my supermom badge for a whole day! Let me just pretend it’s true, mmmkay?

PS – Why in the world do I always sign my name Shannon Z.? I always put the Z. There is no other Shannon at daycare. There is also no other Shannon at my school. Yet ever since I married Peter and got the Z last name, I’ve always put the Z on the end. Strange, strange, strange. Never did that with my old name!
