Wow. I’ve described this birthday as bittersweet – 5 is BIG. He seems so old. No way in the world you can call a 5 year old a toddler. I just…oh, it’s hard to see them get big!
He had a phenomenal, phenomenal weekend. Grandma and Grandpa K arrived on Friday and the party began! He was overjoyed to get a special present from Aunt Kim and Uncle Brian, along with some wonderful hand me down books. The kid kept his nose in a book for a good 24 hours!
Then the party began. Lego theme this year, because he of course loves his Legos!
The party guests were all “Master Builders.” They got to make cars, race them, and take them home as their favors.
Of course there were some breaks for toys and food too!
Then it was off to the races!
My mom made this awesome Lego cake. And it was SOOO yummy!
And we got to watch an adorable baby be happy…what’s better than that?

Here’s the first picture of the official FIVE year old this morning.
He loved, loved his stuffed Yoda (who he now calls Yo Yo).
I finally relented and allowed a light saber. It was a huge debate in my head. But he was quite excited (and there were lots of rules!).
Of course he still had to hit the soccer field today!
And then he came home and showed off his skills on his new BIG bike!
Here are my limited skills: “Pumpkins” for his class treat tomorrow. He thinks it’s awesome – I’m sure it’s the only year taking oranges to school for your birthday treat is awesome. But I’ll take it (20 peeled clementines later…).
Such a fabulous weekend, topped off by his dinner of choice, Chipotle.
We were so lucky to have so many friends join us, both sets of grandparents (ahem, who somehow escaped all the pictures), and love just all around.

I went on my first field trip as a mom! I’ve been on approximately 24 as a teacher…and let me tell you, they are stressful when you’re the teacher! All those little bodies just – on the loose. It is super nerve wracking and everybody is on edge until we get back to school (well, adults are on edge, kids are crazy).
But preschool field trips are a teacher’s dream. Every parent has to go! I mean really, how fabulous. It’s like the teachers got paid to just be there and special. Which is awesome, because we love them, but I could get into this every child with a parent thing.
It was, as all October field trips are for little people, to the pumpkin patch. I asked Logan when we first found out about it if he wanted Aubrey to go. It’s a family trip, so siblings are invited. He, being the awesome big brother that he is, said of course, why would she not? So Aubrey got to enjoy the day too, thanks to her sweet brother.
What neither of them did, all day, was look right at the camera and smile. Do they not know how important pumpkin pictures are?

There was a jumping pillow. He was beyond thrilled – those are all his little buddies and he got to jump with them. It was like his dream come true.
So there was a little train. And Aubrey really, really wanted to go on. But the rule was you had to go by yourself. I was terrified, I had no idea how she was going to react. Surprise, surprise, she was awesome.
Even when the train took a turn into the corn field (and I panicked because I couldn’t see her and there were no seatbelts and what if she just stood up and jumped?) but she was fine.

I love this picture because of the smile he has on his face while he’s talking to his classmate. The kid loves everything about school!
And then Aubrey, who was happy all day but couldn’t be bothered to smile for the camera, found her happy place with a scarecrow. Her new BFF apparently.
So much fun and I’m so glad I got to go! I’ll take that side of a field trip anyday!
