We went back to the doctor today and unfortunately Logan is still wheezing. The doctor felt like it was enough still that he does need to continue the nebulizer. They even decided that it was time for us to have one of our own, not just rent theirs. On the bright side, the one we rented was always a boring box. The pharmacy had two choices for us: penguin or fire truck. Of course, I chose fire truck for Logan…and we continue the treatments, probably until Sunday. His cough was worse at points today, but overall his mood does seem better. His ears even already looked better since Tuesday. The doctor said that to look at him from two feet away he’s not in any sort of breathing distress and he looks happy, so that is the most important part. But we are ready for our baby to get all better!
On a side note, this is what he looked like when he woke up from his nap today:
That little tooshee (um, spelling?) sticking out was just too cute.
“Um, mom, why are you looking at me? Is there a draft in here?”
He loved the vacuum again today. I’m hoping he loves it this much when he is about 10 years old too!
The doctor reminded me “It’s just the start of winter.” UGH. He also said we’d have to watch his wheezing in the future and see if it develops into any sort of childhood asthma. UGH. Insurance didn’t cover the nebulizer. UGH. Sleep is awful. I asked the doctor if there was anything different we should be doing, should we be letting him cry, I’m grasping at straws! He said no, this is not the time to let him cry, the wheezing is too rough and he is too sick. But it took an hour to get him to sleep tonight and he’s already been up once. UGH.
Then, today, I found myself gazing down at a little boy who fell asleep in my arms before his nap, and reminded myself that life, thankfulness, attitude…it’s all about perspective. Things seem rough right now, but we continue to be blessed beyond our wildest dreams.
One of the my favorite blogs, Maybe If You Just Relax, was devastating today. She had her twins a few weeks early last night, and one of them didn’t make it. Though I don’t know her AT ALL, I found myself telling Peter about it, and thinking about it all day. Because a little lost sleep? Compared to the pure devastation she must be feeling? I cannot even begin to imagine.
Quite a few people in my life have been trying to have babies, some for a while. I know they would give anything for a little lost sleep, if it meant waking up to a baby who needed them.
Then I thought about the Sartini’s and thought about how they have a baby who is battling cancer and getting transplants. And my baby? He is so relatively healthy that I can’t even fathom what they go through each day.
So yes, tonight, I am thankful. I am thankful for my wonderful little family, all the people who have checked on us, thought about us, commiserated with us over the past two weeks. I am thankful for a little boy who loves to play, who hides in his tent with his daddy to surprise me when I get home from the grocery store, and who discovered tonight that he loves pineapple. I’m thankful for two sets of grandparents that are close enough that they could be here at a moments notice. I am thankful that when my little boy needs me in the middle of the night, he lets me know. And I’m thankful that he is there, to need me.
Perspective – it’s a funny thing. One little shift in my thoughts, and a whole lot more to be thankful for.
