Snow Day…8?

Well, this one was a surprise out of nowhere. We weren’t expecting the snow that our southern friends got, but we did end up with maybe a couple inches. I’ll be honest, I’m over these snow days for piddly snow. I want the BIG one. Like, the February 2010 storm. You know, 30 inches. That was great stuff. I want that for the kids – because wow, they would have SO much fun and Logan would just be in awe. But, that wasn’t today!

We did get a fun play date with Bestie and Baby Bestie out of it though! And how can we disappointed with that? We were so excited!

I didn’t follow them around with the camera, but the best picture opportunities always seem to come when we say goodbye, so I grabbed the camera. And they didn’t disappoint, especially Baby Bestie and her cuteness!

I’m so glad they all love each other. Because they’re kind of stuck with each other. We so love, love, love an extra play day with them!

I gave Logan a big talk tonight at bedtime about how proud I am of him for what a good big brother he is. Honestly, I know I talk about it a lot, but he kind of floors me with how kind he is to Aubrey. Yes, we certainly have moments where toys are taken and there are tears, but he really is the big brother that looks out for her and always is checking on her and making sure she’s okay. When we were driving today Aubrey was asking to hold my hand and I couldn’t really while I was driving so I asked Logan if he would hold her hand and he did, then he said, “Aubrey, you know, this really isn’t scary. But that’s okay, I will still hold your hand if you need me to protect you.” Love that kid.

I am for sure going to school tomorrow. I mean, as sure as I am about these snow days this winter!

Baby Love

Aubrey has a bit of a serious obsession with babies. They are beyond amazing and she has to have one all the time. Always.

The tiny ones from her Little People house are her new favorites and she literally carries one in each hand all the time. And sings “Rock-a-Baby” (Rock a Bye Baby) to them – it is so stinkin’ cute.

But I think she’s a little angry about the fact that all the babies have to share a bed (Two more are in the stroller, don’t worry, they’re spread out!). All piled on top of each other.

That is a cradle my grandfather made for me when I was a baby! My mom painted it and made a new pillow for it so Aubrey could use it. Clearly she loves it since they all have to sleep in there.

And then she gives them kisses good night.

Love this little girl. Who, by the way, will tell you she is a baby, not a big girl.

And at the moment, feeling all sentimental about her second birthday in 2 months? I’m quite okay with that.

This is Our Life

Sometime over the past week I took these two videos. They are so, so random. But yes, this is our reality. And oh how I am going to miss it one day. Seriously (Really, seriously, I am not being sarcastic. You know how nostalgic I get. I will miss this.).

This is Logan, and our random playtime. But be warned. The video might make you nauseous. Aubrey was trying to help me. Um, yeah. The other funny part of this video is when I ask him what kind of drinks he has on his spaceship and he says Sprite. Because I don’t think he’s ever had Sprite, but maybe he’s seen it at birthday parties? It would make more sense for him to say Diet Coke, since that’s what he hears me order places, but I guess that’s not fun enough for him.

Space Boy

Then there’s Aubrey. This one is loooooong, sorry. Aubrey has no shirt on because she got it crazy dirty at dinner and it was almost time for bed. She came running up to me because “Daddy scare me”. Which means he was chasing her. Then at the end she tries to eat a Lego. Which she’s never done before, thank goodness. But no, we don’t leave the little Legos out around her. Because apparently they taste great. Yep, it’s a whole lot of random.

Air and Space, Take 2!

Last weekend we went back to the Air and Space Museum. We went last year in January and Logan talks about it all the time. So back we went! I didn’t get a ton of pictures, but here’s some evidence of the trip.

When you walk in there are planes everywhere. Real planes. It is so awesome and Logan has been in awe both times. This time Aubrey was super excited too and kept talking “panes!”

Logan got to get in one of the planes and a volunteer told him all about the plane. He was hesitant, but when he finished he told us that was what he was going to do when he grows up.

Or, you know, be an astronaut.

All things to make his mama have shortness of breath, of course.

Once Aubrey decided she was going to walk, this was how they went around the museum. Yes, it was beyond adorable.

But, you know, the picture of both of them smiling and looking at me still eludes me.

At the end of the trip Peter and Logan got to land a space shuttle together! Logan was so, so serious about it. Luckily the landing was very successful.

Here’s the craziest thing about the museum…free to get in, but $15 to park. That will always baffle me! Especially since it’s not like the metro goes there. But it is definitely worth it, beautifully designed. A must see if you haven’t (this is the one in Chantilly, FYI – smaller one now in DC).

Thankful on Thursday

- We left the house today! You know, for Target, of course. 

- A special meeting this weekend, so excited!

- Long talks with Bestie. 

- Yoga pants. I have lived in them for 4 days in a row! 

- Growth: I also have not worn make up in 4 days. And two of those days I was out and about. Unheard of for me 10 years ago. 

- How much Logan loves Aubrey. It takes my breath away sometimes, honestly. 

- Laughter when things go wrong. Aubrey peed on the floor today (in her underwear, but it dripped to the floor) and we just laughed. She's not perfect, isn't Supposed to be. Laughing is so much easier than the alternative! 

- We are going to school tomorrow! 2 hour delay, but we will get there. 

And, for my friends up north, a good giggle at what's kept us out of school for 3 days...

In all fairness it was icy. And you guys are much better equipped to handle winter. But I could still go for a good snow like 2010 when we got 2.5 feet!

Wordless Wednesday: Snow Day Take 6

Yep. Snow in the bathtub.

Snow Day take 5

Yep, 5 snow days already and it's only mid January. I'm not complaining! 

We hung out in our jammies all morning! 

And um, we spent quite lot of time like that. I should have known something was up...

Yep, that one had a fever when he woke up from his nap. So, do slight...like just 100.0. But even Aubrey touched him and said, unprompted, "Logan hot." So sad. We stayed curled up for a long time, which in Logan speak means sick. 

I had to text my neighbors to see if anybody had chicken noodle soup, because that was all he wanted and the roads were dicey. Yay, neighbor to he rescue!!

Yep, can you tell? Already feeling better and fever gone. Without any meds. So I have no idea what's going on, but we have tomorrow to figure it out because we have another snow day tomorrow. Love early calls. 

Aubrey insisted on having her picture taken too, of course! 

She would not open her eyes, she was saying "cheese" so hard! 

Sickies, signing off. At least we get to stay home for lots of snuggles! 

Sunday Randoms

Aubrey and the road had an unfortunate meeting today. 

On her forehead. The rest is pizza, promise. Little Miss was just running too fast and slammed face first into the road. Mean road. 

This one went in the woods with daddy today and wants to tell you thorns are mean too (though no thorns touched him, so I'm confused). 

Really I just wanted another excuse to show you his haircut. 

Logan woke up at 4:15am today. WHAT the heck??? Like, raring to go. I tried to have him play in his room, but that was SO boring without us. At 5:15 I elected Peter for a turn. Aubrey gave me until 6:30. Kids are SO wierd. 

Yay for 3 day weekends. They are good stuff. 

And snow in the forecast. I approve. 

Haircut

Post and run here...but I love this new haircut and how old my baby looks! 

I mean, really. Old and hip. I can't handle it. 

Thankful on Thursday

- Super fun FaceTime tonight with friends. 

- Finally catching up with E after a few weeks of craziness! I miss my friends when life gets going too fast!

- 2 fun girls nights coming up this month. I am so excited! 

- Logan and I were spared the stomach bug and it appears we did not infect the Bestie's either! 

- The dishwasher. Seriously, I love that thing.

- Good books! I'm reading the Book Thief right now and I love it!

- Happy kiddos. It was a good night. 

Happy almost Friday!

Repeat

Having a second child is fascinating. She wants to do everything he does. Now. She has crazy language skills because...he talks all the time. She has to play on all the big kids things. No toys are off limits. She is big. Peter calls the kids "Pete" and "Repeat". He falls and bangs his head and she runs her head and says, "owww, my head hurts."

And now...she's potty trained herself. 

It freaks me out. 21 months old and she's potty trained. All because she wanted to use the potty like Logan. I got the all clear to bring no more diapers to daycare. 

What.the.$&!@? 

Yes. You read that right. I never curse on here. But I think that means I'm never buying diapers for my own children again. Talk about mixed emotions. 

I adore them. But I need them to slow down. A lot. 

Blast Off!

When you ask Logan what he wants to be when he grows up he often says an astronaut. Friday night we were just playing quietly when Peter suddenly got an idea to make a spaceship out of some boxes we have. It ended up a huge hit, of course!

First, this is his lovely drawing of the meteor from space that hit the Earth and killed the dinosaurs. That dinosaur has two legs and a tail, in case you were wondering.

This was his astronaut outfit when we started playing, but clearly it got too cumbersome as a space suit.

In other news, the stomach bug claimed another victim in Peter. He was definitely down for the count last night and tonight. We are quite thankful for a playground a lunch trip the kids went on with Grandma and Pa Pa F today so I could get some rest too since I was up with Peter all night. Good times!

And now, off to another week…

Lazy January

So we have nothing going on in January. And it is awesome. After all the constantness that December brings it is so nice. Last Sunday we went to the mall for some random fun on a cold, rainy morning. The most fabulous thing is taking the kids around 9, before the stores open. There are mainly just walkers there and the kids can walk on their own, no strollers, race up ramps, and play at the play space. But, there are usually still people playing. Other people know our tricks too! Last Sunday – it was just us!

But look who we did find at the mall – Grandma F! She had been walking and came back to see us! The kids were so excited and surprised.

Okay, so Logan has fears, I’ll admit it. He’s hesitant about a lot of things. I question why a lot – are we too protective? I don’t think that’s it for most things, I mean we give him free reign on the playground, he gets to try all those things. But a few random things scare him.

One is the moving things at the mall. Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s not like I love these moving things…I mean, they cost money and what’s the point? But it stresses me out that he seems REALLY scared of them. He loves to play on them but does NOT want them turned on. Well, we saw another kid ride on the motorcycle, so he saw it wasn’t crazy, and we managed to get him on and get the money in. WAHOO! He did it! I mean, he doesn’t have to want to do it everyday, because that’s money I don’t need to waste. But yes, he can conquer his fears!

And then there are little things he gets scared of. Like jumping off one of the play structures, when he’s done it a million times before. He decided he HAD to have my hand. But I finally convinced him otherwise and told him I’d make a move of him. So, here you go. A movie of him jumping!

Short and silly, but he did it!

We’ve had more laziness with some productiveness this weekend. With no snow in the forecast it looks like I’ll have to teach for a  whole 5 day week so I better rest up!
