1 Month!

Guess who is one month old today?

We had her 1 month check up today. She looks great!

Weight: 9lbs 3 oz, about 75th percentile!

height: 21 3/4 inches, about 70th percentile

The weight just makes me laugh, after those 2 weeks of worry, she is doing so well. The doctor said, “Whatever you’re doing, keep doing it!”Great to hear.

She’s still in newborn clothes, but we moved her up to size 1 diapers after a few explosions up the back.

Uh, they’re still pretty huge on her!

She eats about every 2 – 3 hours, round the clock. She does cluster feed in the evenings.

Sleep is… a crapshoot. Yesterday she slept way too much during the day and was wide awake at night…and gassy! She’s been more awake today, so fingers crossed for a better night!

The car seat is her enemy. She is not a fan.

Tummy time isn’t quite the torture it was with Logan, but it isn’t exactly productive either. She just kind of chills out, we’re working on actually turning/lifting her head more. She does much better with her head control on our chests.

Her brother loves her to pieces. Every morning when we go in to get him he says, “Where’s Aubrey?” Today we had to run into the store to get something and he got SO concerned that I forgot her (I did not!). It was adorable.

I can’t remember what life was like without her, but I am trying SO hard to soak up all this little baby stuff. I’m already afraid I’m forgetting too much!

We love you baby girl! You are incredible. Thanks for a fabulous first month!

A Fan Letter

Dear Fisher Price,

I love you. Your little reclined chair with its bunny ears is the best.thing.ever. 2 or 3 hours of sleep versus 20 minutes at a time? It’s possible I would have paid $500. Luckily I didn’t have to, but it was worth every penny. This? This is my new very favorite thing.

Your Rock n’ Play? It’s my new sleep magic weapon (until tonight, when it won’t work since blogged about it). I pull it right up to my side of the bed, and she snoozes away. My husband and I had an argument about the safety straps because your awesome directions say we need to use them but I wanted her swaddled too. So, we decided to just swaddle arms. And it works like a charm. Thanks fisher price. Even if it doesn’t work ever again, 2 nights of a few good stretches was worth it, for sure (but I’m hoping for a few more!).

That’s Entertainment

Years ago when there was the first mad cow scare (I think I was about 15 – so 16 years ago?) my dad’s crazy sense of humor found lots to joke about. We were on vacation and for some reason we kept making mad cow jokes and he would make this crazy mooing sound. It was fabulously funny. Well, with the new mad cow news, I emailed my dad right away when I heard. This time he taught Logan how to do the scary moo…it is hysterical, and this is the face he makes.

Then we laughed so hard, so of course he had to as well!

That’s peanut butter and jelly pie that my mom made all over his face. It was SO good!

And the little lady? She didn’t find it quite as entertaining…she slept through the whole dinner (after kicking off her socks)!

Friday Night Leftovers

• Aubrey sleeps for 20 minute stretches in her bassinet at night. SERIOUSLY???
• Then she sleeps all morning…in my arms.
• My grandma is coming today! Logan is so excited to see Great Grandma M!
• We need to go to the grocery store SO badly. It’s only been a week but clearly we’ve been really hungry.
• I also need some new fast and easy recipes, I’m bored with the same old same old. Pinteresting I go!
• Daycare is doing such a good job of getting Logan on the potty. I’m not good at the “kind of” stuff. I want to just do the three day method and go all out.
• Sleep. I need sleep. I’m boring.

Thankful on Thursday

• My parents. They help us so much, I can’t even list what they do. They are awesome.
• A growing baby!
• Prenatal vitamins –,Peter has an awful cold and I think they are the only reason I don’t have it.
• Naps – for all!
• Macaroni and cheese
• Logan adoring Aubrey.
• Stories – Peter told Logan the best ones tonight, princesses and superheros were involved. Who knew he was so creative?

Our Many Faces

Z House Update

A bunch of random stuff today…

• Peter is sick, so I was on my own tonight with 2 kiddos at Logan’s bedtime. It was humorous. I may or may not have had both kids in the nursery chair with me, nursing Aubrey while reading a book to Logan. Multitasking for sure.
• Aubrey does not like to be put down. Ever. This is why I really need her to like being worn. Really.
• I also think Aubrey might have silent reflux (per Dr. Google). She sleeps terribly at night when we put her flat on her back. She sleeps great on me at night, but I am too nervous about it so I get no sleep. Plus, she gets tons of hiccups (I know some are normal, but it’s a lot), wet burps occasionally, and she seems to have some gagging/swallowing issues sometimes. Plus she is just pretty unhappy sometimes.  I don’t know. We go back to the doctor next Monday for her 1 month check up, so I’m going to talk to them then. She only spits up occasionally, but that’s the “silent” part.
• I ordered a rock n play from Amazon today. People swear by it for helping them sleep. PLEASE keep your fingers crossed. I mean, literally, she’ll sleep for about 15 minutes in the pack n play…so I need something to work!
• What the heck is up with the weather? 90 degrees last week, 45 today?

• This hammer that got caught on the necklace? It kept Logan laughing and amused for a good hour on Saturday night, it was hilarious. Um, plus the turquoise socks with his pjs is too cute.

• When you don’t sleep at night you are very tired when it’s time to take your brother to school….

• All worth it for sure…so, so worth it.

Newborn Pics

The wonderful Christine Paul, who has done all of our family photos since Logan’s one year shoot, came to our house to take Aubrey’s newborn pictures. They were wonderful, as I knew they would be! Aubrey had a hard time falling asleep for them (which was unusual at the time, because she was always asleep!) but Christine was patient and the results speak for themselves!

And there are even more! Love, love, love them!

Friday Night Leftovers

• She did it! Aubrey weighed 8lbs  5oz at her weight check today. She gained 13oz. in 8 days. She is a rock star! We are done with weight checks now, wahoo!
• I am that kind of tired where talking/answering questions/being human is tricky. I don’t think it’s going to get better anytime soon. That’s okay.
• Today I dried and straightened my hair. Because the hair dryer soothes Aubrey and she just slept away in her bouncer. I kept the hair dryer on in my lap long after I was done, while I straightened and put on make up. Some how the white noise machine in our room does not have the same effect.
• Logan told me last night as I was putting him to bed, “I don’t like you. I want daddy.” Awww, way to make me feel better buddy!
• I do know he’s 2 and didn’t mean it…right?
• Has anybody read the 50 Shades of Grey books? Worth it? I’m afraid what I have heard about the bad writing and grammatical errors would annoy me, but I hate to not at least give it a try.

Thankful on Thursday

• Maternity leave – To be honest, I feel like I could physically work right now. But, I’ve decided maternity leave is really for exhaustion and emotional overload.
• Bestie for always calling to check on us.
• Nursing – It is going SO much better!
• Tomorrow’s weight check for Aubrey - I just know it is going to go well.
• Logan and the potty – He peed on the potty 4 times yesterday, twice at school and twice at home. My favorite part is how proud of himself he is!
• Swaddles. Awesome.
• Grandparents. Also awesome.
• Getting to see friends this weekend!

Wordless Wednesday–Beyond Blessed

Jump Around

When Logan was a newborn Peter used to sing the Cypress Hill song “Jump Around” to him and jump (little jumps!) up and down. Oddly it soothed him. Cypress Hill, who knew?

Well, the kid still loves to jump. I’ve talked before about how when we moved to our new house he always said, “I can jump at new house?” and would jump around like a maniac.

Now he has truly found heaven. Our neighbors have a trampoline. Peter knows I think they are injury traps waiting to happen, so when it first went up he was like, “Oh no…” But then they invited us to play on it and I got to see it and theirs is actually as safe as it gets. Fully enclosed, on flat land, etc. There really is no way to fall off.

He does in fact, jump so much that it is impossible to get a picture of him looking at the camera!

The neighbors have said we can play on it whenever, but we’re trying to teach Logan that he has to be invited to play. We’re working on those manners, ya know? We are THRILLED with our neighbors on both sides. There are 3 houses down here at the end of the cul-de-sac and we all fit together really well. It was exactly what we wanted when we moved and we hit the jack pot!

Now, if we could have an actual spring and not just temperatures in the 90s, that would be great!

Yep, I’m One of Them

I am one of those people that can’t get enough of big bows. Today we went outside for all of 2 seconds (in the shade but it was still SO hot!) and I took the opportunity to get her all bowed up.

See, she’s so peaceful it’s like she doesn’t even know the bow is there. She’s so cool with it.

Then we came inside and she was all…”Hmmm, what is this giant thing on my head? I don’t have the best vision, but I see something off to the side of my head."

Then she decided she was going to punch me for putting this giant thing on her head.

I’m totally doing the bow/dress/all that stuff for as long as she’ll let me. The minute she doesn’t want them, that’s fine and she doesn’t have to wear them. But for now? Dress up is fun – she can hate me later.

Weekend Wrap Up

Let’s just start with some cuteness, shall we?

I’ve had some complaints that there are not enough cute baby shots. So, there ya go!

We had a great weekend! It started off rocky with Aubrey sleeping really poorly on Friday night, and I was a zombie yesterday. Last night she did much better, so I can’t complain too much.

Saturday morning we went to Touch-a-Truck. It was basically this little festival full of nothing but trucks and other transportation equipment – my little guy’s dream! I heard about it at the last minute on my message board and decided to just do it. It was perfect because we won’t take Aubrey anywhere inside and crowded, but this was outside, not close quarters, and she could just be in the stroller with the shade up so no one even saw her!

Logan had so much fun. There were trash trucks, buses, tow trucks, fire trucks, a train car, a police car, a race car, and so much more. Plus, the highlight was a police helicopter that we saw land and take off – really close to us!

Such a great day! The boys had the most fun!

The rest of the weekend we tried to rest up and got lots of help from Grandma and Pa Pa F. They are so good to us! We also got some yummy food from a teacher at school that we had tonight. Such a treat!

We’re getting into the groove here. All 4 of us together do great. It’s a lot harder with 1 parent and 2 kiddos though, but we’re learning. Now I just need Aubrey to get up to 8 pounds so I can wear her in the baby carrier and life would be SO much easier (I can’t do the wraps – I stink at those).
