We’re Alive…I Think…

Oh.My.

You know that stomach bug I thought Logan might have had but I wasn’t sure? Yeah, I got it Saturday morning. First thing Saturday morning, 6am…it was my day to get up with Logan, so I get up, think hmmm, I don’t feel so good…and pretty much throw him at Peter and run to the bathroom. Where I spend the next 36 hours. Well, split between the bathroom and the bed. In between cries of, “Can you bring him to the door so I can see him?”  It was awful. Grandpa F came over Saturday to bring some medicine, then Grandma and Grandpa F  came over on Sunday to take Logan out for a while and give Peter a break. Peter was a great nurse…even cleaned the house! So wonderful…

I was finally out of the bathroom Sunday evening, but so drained…so Peter said I absolutely could not go to work. I made sub plans and sent them to my wonderful teammates…and then around 10 was woken up to Peter saying, “I don’t feel so good…” Oh, it was bad. Bad, bad, bad. Ten times worse than me.  For those of you that don’t know, Peter has Type 1 diabetes, so blood sugar is a real issue when he gets sick like this. The  only other time since we’ve been together that he’s had a stomach virus we ended up in the ER. Last night around 1am he told me his blood sugar was dropping and if it kept dropping we’d need to go to the ER.

Now mind you, I was still not feeling great. Hadn’t eaten anything except Gatorade since Friday night…um, and the last time we had to go to the ER for him? There was not this little thing called Logan.

So, I made a 2am call to Grandma and Grandpa F. They came over and grabbed a sleepy Logan and took him back to their house (this made more since for morning daycare issues so they could both go to work). While they live “close” it’s not that close…35 – 40 minutes. That’s not a lot when that’s your daily commute, but it is a lot at 2am! Logan was such a trooper, a little confused but not a peep of a cry. He even entertained Grandma and Grandpa before they dropped him off at daycare this morning.

Meanwhile Peter’s blood sugar managed to stabilize, with the help of some Gatorade and some other insulin issues. But the poor guy was literally sick every hour from 10pm – 6am. He called Grandma K and she volunteered to come up, but we didn’t want her to get sick too! We were both just a mess today, but tonight I am finally back among the living - Peter has a fever now! Grandpa F helped me get Logan home, and he and I had a good night while Daddy slept. Hopefully he will continue to get some rest and start getting rehydrated too. I am trying to get more food and drink into me too – I’ve lost 7 pounds since Friday morning, not the way to do it!

So, please keep your fingers crossed that Logan has already had this, that his small spells last week were his body’s version of the bug. I absolutely do not want him to get as sick as we did!

I have taken no pictures in the past 3 days, and tried to tonight…I managed to get one. He’s decided to hide away in his house, to escape our germs…

Whew, hope your week is off to a better start than ours!

Snow Day #3!

When I went in to get Logan this morning, around 6, I opened the door and the smell was, well, gross. I knew right away that he had thrown up. At some point in the middle of the night, after I checked on him before I went to bed at 10:30, he threw up. Ick. I didn’t hear it on the monitor, and I keep it up pretty loud. Luckily he hadn’t put his face in it, so it was just on the sheet and his sleepsack. We got him all cleaned up…

Then I brought him downstairs and gave him some milk. All was well for about 30 minutes. Then that um, well, came back up. Logan has always thrown up at night when I haven’t been in the room…so that was an experience, seeing him throw up. He looked SO confused!

Anyway, we got him all cleaned up again, the floor cleaned, and just laid low for the day. He was a bit out of sorts, for sure. I’m not sure if it was a bug (maybe related to the fever earlier this week?) or related to the vaccines, or what…but we are hoping it’s gone!

He did manage to perk up by the end of the day. He had a grand time playing with his blocks! Yes, he is still in pjs at 5pm…his third pair of the day! :)

IMG_2355

Here’s a little video of him getting quite tickled at himself as he throws the blocks…excuse the lighting, I kept trying to move and get away from the glare from outside, but didn’t work too well!

So thankful for this snow day today, to give Logan some time to rest at home and not have to make sub plans!

Have a great weekend!

15 Months!

Logan and I had another great snow day today! And guess what…we get another one tomorrow! The especially exciting part about that is that the roads are pretty decent and by 10am I’m sure we’ll be able to get out, even with my great fear of the slightest white stuff.

Today we did a lot of hanging out in our pajamas…Logan clearly didn’t mind and had plenty of fun.

I’m not exactly sure what’s happening in this picture…I think it’s the “Where is she?” pose, but it could also be in the middle of a crazy dance move…

IMG_2340

This is what happens when you say, “Logan, say cheese!”

IMG_2342

We spent A LOT of time reading books, as always! Grandma and Grandpa K’s new book is already a hit!

IMG_2347

IMG_2348

We did get out today, to go to Logan’s 15 month appointment. We were lucky because they didn’t open the office until noon due to the weather, but his appointment was at 4. Here’s what’s going on with our little man at 15 months!

Weight: 22lbs, 9 oz (My guess was so close!) - This puts him in the 25th percentile. He’s not gaining quite as quickly now…perfectly normal for a child who moves nonstop! He’s been in the 25th percentile pretty consistently since he finally got there around 6 months.

Height: 30.5 inches – also 25th percentile!  I really think he’s taller than this…they always say the height isn’t the most accurate, because they are still taking it lying down, different nurses “stretch” them differently, etc.

Talking: This was my big issue at the doc today, of course. We told him Logan isn’t talking. He asked if understood what we said to him…um, yes. When you ask him if he wants to go upstairs? He goes to the stairs. When you ask him if he wants a cracker? He smiles and goes to the kitchen. When you ask him to bring you the bus book? He brings it and sits right in your lap. On and on, he definitely understands. And oh boy, does he understand the word no. And hates it!

The doc said that the average 15 month old has 5 words. Some have more, some have none, like Logan. He said we should expect an explosion soon, that he thinks Logan is just taking everything in. He also said that if he still isn’t talking at 18 months then he’ll be more concerned and we’ll talk about what to do next.

Oddly enough, tonight when I told Logan “no” about something (touching blinds maybe? I don’t remember…) he said “No” back to me…okay, it was more like “na” but then I said it again and he said it again. And we kept going. I looked at Peter and I was like, is he saying no? He said he thought so. Add in that he was wagging his finger at me (which we started doing to go with the “Monkeys” book and has become a bit of a joke) and it was pretty cute! Progress perhaps? Ah, I’ve got another whole 3 months to NOT worry. Ha. Ha. Ha.

Teeth: NINE! 2 molars on the bottom are all the way through, then he’s got his top 4 front teeth and 3 on the bottom.

Sleep: I can’t talk about it. It will jinx it. Good, sleep is good.

My favorite things: When he says, “Sh, Sh, Sh” and puts his finger to his lips. So cute! I also still love the scrunchy face, I love when he tries to feed us food, and oh how I adore how much he loves his books! My very favorite thing to do is our nightly bedtime routine. After we brush his teeth and read books he snuggles right into my chest for some rocking, before he goes into the crib. He grabs his stuffed dog, Spunky, and turns to look up as I leave…and he is happy, content, and sleepy.

Off to bed.  Gotta get some good sleep for all that snow day playing tomorrow!

More Snow Days!

We had another snow day today! It was fabulous timing, as Logan had a fever last night…this morning it was back down, then back up again tonight. It gets up to about 101.5, then I give him medicine and it comes down…so I don’t know what’s up with that. We are supposed to have his 15 month appointment tomorrow – I’m really hoping we can make it, we just have to see how the roads are. As I’m typing this there is a truck stuck trying to turn from our street to the bigger neighborhood road. There is A LOT of snow out there. I mean, not a lot when you consider the actual real blizzard we had last year, but a lot for this year. They’re predicting 6 – 10 inches. It has been snowing HARD, 1 – 2 inches an hour, and it is really windy. Even some snow thunder and lightning!

But anyway, he honestly seems to be feeling fine. He had a little bit of a runny nose yesterday evening, then another runny nose tonight after dinner. Slight cough every now and then, but he is acting like his normal, sunny self for the most part!

Today is Logan’s actual 15 month birthday! I don’t do the monthly updates anymore, but I figure the big 3 month milestones are good ones to do. I am going to wait until his appointment though, so I can do weight and everything (I’m going to guess 22 lbs, 10 oz…we’ll see!).

But, here’s a pic to commemorate the exact 15 month birthday!

IMG_2319

For some reason, Frankenstein, who was a Halloween toy, has made a comeback. Oh, wait, I know, it’s because Logan has figured out how to make the music play and starts dancing like a maniac when it comes on! He loves it so much…I may have threatened to take the batteries out on Sunday. Luckily he only played him a few times today!

Schools are already closed tomorrow! Very excited for another day to relax and get some stuff done. Now, if we can just keep the power on!

Crime Scene

There was a crime scene at our house tonight…

IMG_2304

You see, someone ran over Alex the Monkey, then was so distraught they ran into a house.

This is the suspect.

IMG_2298

Ahem…cute and innocent looking…and in need of some pants.

Two posts in one day! Woo Hoo!

Book Meme

My bloggy friend, Tasha, (you know, the best tutu seller out there!) did a blog called “Book Meme” today. It was started by a blog she reads, and the rules were that you were supposed to tell about books you were reading, your thoughts on them, and take a picture of them. I love to read, so I thought I’d join in (you were also supposed to tag people to continue it…I’m not going to do that, but it you want to do it on your blog I’d love to see what you’re reading!).

Um, but I didn’t know what a “meme” was. I felt dumb. I thought maybe it was a Canadian term…but I looked it up and here’s what I found, from Wikipedia (I know, the smartest place out there…):

"The term Internet meme (pronounced /ˈmiːm/, rhyming with "cream"[1]) is used to describe a concept that spreads via the Internet.[2] The term is a reference to the concept of memes, although the latter concept refers to a much broader category of cultural information.”

So, we’re spreading books, something this first grade teacher can get behind! :)
Here’s what I’ve been reading in January, all on my Kindle! Love it!

I’m just going to cheat and combine these three:

the_girl_with_the_dragon_tattoo-large2 the-girl-who-played-with-fire-10-2 The-Girl-Who-Kicked-the-Hornet-Nest-030726999X-L

I kind of LOVE these books.  I was one of the people that could not get into them at first. EG kept telling me they were good, and we usually are right in sync with books, so I knew I had to keep going. And WOAH. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. They are up there with my favorite books ever, honestly.  Once I read the first one I had to read the second RIGHT away. Then the third. Then I was tragically sad when that one was done.

After all of those heavy books, I needed a break. So I read this:

minishopaholic

Yep, I’ve read all the Shopaholic books…and this one was just what I was expecting, a light, fun read.
I had no idea what to do when I finished that one…so I looked at what Amazon recommended for me and I got this:

15226063

Hmmm, can you tell what kind of books I look up on Amazon? This one was the same chick-lit stuff, and it was fun. I think it would make a good, easy beach read. Lots of different types of moms in it.
Now, I’m reading this:

unbroken-laura-hillenbrand-300x455

WOAH. Talk about a difference. Not my usual type of book, but I have to say I am loving it! It’s a true story of a soldier in World War II, and I am so surprised that I am loving it. This is one I can’t wait to recommend to my dad…okay, so I just did. Dad, you should read this!

And, well, for the past 3 months I have been reading these, off and on, as needed:

9781889392288 The-Happiest-Toddler-on-the-Block-How-to-Eliminate-Tantrums-and-Raise-a-Patient-Respectful-and-Cooperative-One-to-Four-Year-Old-Revised-Edition-0553384422-L

I was a Baby 411 junkie, and a Happiest Baby on the Block lover, so here I am with the sequels…and just as happy with those!

I really, really, really want to pass my love of reading on to Logan. I have always loved to read. When I was younger I would even read in the bathtub, and had several Babysitters Club books that had to spend some extra time spread out over a vent after they got dunked in the water. Now it is my nightly ritual every single night before I go to sleep. It’s one of my favorite things about vacation. And honestly, it’s one of the reasons I love my job. Because I try to open up that world to students. Create a reader and you create a child who can do ANYTHING.

If Logan’s favorite book is any indication, he may be well on his way…cover, gone. Because it was read over, and over, and over...we plan on getting a replacement, tape doesn't seem to cut it!

Here’s to books! :)

Mylicon…that’s all I got…

There’s a teacher at school that’s pregnant. Well, two, but one is due in 2 weeks, so she is very pregnant. The other day I was going through a cabinet of stuff and found an unopened container of Mylicon. Mylicon, for those of you who don’t know, is this antigas medicine you can give to babies. Except I don’t even know if you can really call it medicine. I mean, it’s over the counter, and you can give it up to 12 times a day. Yes, 12. I don’t really know what is in it…some people swear by it to help babies with gas.

I had no idea what I was doing when I had Logan. When he was about 3 – 4 weeks old, the kid had a ton of gas. He was a tooting machine. He also cried a lot. I thought maybe it was the gas. Eh, now looking back I just think he was a newborn and I didn’t know any better, but clearly a medicine you can give 12 times a day can’t hurt when you give it twice a day, right?

Point being that I bought an extra bottle because OH MY WORD, WE CANNOT RUN OUT. And I never opened it. And it expires 7/11…there is literally not a chance that I’m going to have a baby by then. So I decided I’d take it to this teacher.

I walked it into the teachers lounge today and said, “I have something for you” and she said, “good, advice , I need it” and I was like “uh…uh…no, Mylicon…”

I’m very rarely at a loss for words. I’ve talked to this girl many times during her pregnancy about everything imaginable. But thinking of where she is, almost there, so close, I had nothing. I start to think about it and I just get all excited for her. Then I get tired. Then excited. Then anxious. Then tired. Then anxious. Then tired. Then excited. You get the picture.

Because how do you prepare someone for both the most wonderful and terrifying experience of their entire life? It’s still, day to day, wonderful and terrifying. And I think it will be for the next 20 years. The first six weeks with Logan were the best and worst of my life. It’s the truth that doesn’t get talked about a ton – it’s not all sunshine and roses, in fact those first six weeks I think it was about 10% sunshine and roses, 90% what.the.he** am I doing?

So I think maybe my advice should have been: When in doubt, give Mylicon. At least it’ll make you feel like you’re trying to do something…and it can’t hurt, right? Well, not more than 12 times.

This is what happens when you get to the 90% sunshine and roses…

IMG_2275

IMG_2276

The next time I’m at week 3 with a newborn and there’s inconsolable crying? I’m going to remember that eventually they put a box on their head and think they are the funniest thing in the world. And you do too. And it’s unstoppable laughter, not crying. And it’s fabulous.

Sunday, January 23, 2011

Oh Sundays…

So let’s talk just a little about a really taboo subject…working vs. staying at home. Now, I’m not really going to venture THERE…except to say that I am really lucky to get to be a SAH mom for 2.5 months in the summer, 2 weeks in December, a week in April…and snow days of course! The other weeks of the year I am lucky that I get to go to a job I love. I really don’t know how people who don’t like their jobs do it. I mean, I’d be lying if I said I’m always sure I’m making the right decision by working, or that I love being a working mom. Some days I hate it, I’ve gone so far as to convince myself that is why Logan isn’t talking…ahem, yes, I have a tendency to blow things out of proportion. It works right now for us, and luckily we have always said it would be a decision that never had to be final.

But, there is one thing I don’t love about working. Sundays. I just am not a fan of Sundays, which seems strange since it’s a day I don’t have to go to work, right? But  Sundays I just feel a push to be so productive, especially after about 2pm. Like I have to get everything done on Sundays so that the rest of the week will be a little easier. Sundays always involve laundry, grocery shopping, prepping dinners for the week, making lunches for the week, etc. Not to mention working out, playing with the kiddo, and enjoying my hubby!

But during the summer I spread those things out so it doesn’t seem all pushed together. So perhaps I should spread them out during the work weeks too, but that would just be too easy, huh? Besides, then I would have no idea what to do with myself on Sundays!

Luckily, I do most of that stuff while Logan is napping on Sundays (Oh 2.5 hour naps, how I love thee. I never really knew I could move so fast until I had to race against the nap clock!) and he adores the grocery store so that’s a fun thing to do with him. So it really isn’t as bad as I make it out to be. Especially with the prospect of snow this week!

Oh, and we do still get lots of time to have fun on Sundays too…and this? You know this warms my heart…reading, daddy, and Logan, all my favorite things!

IMG_2187

The kid would not smile. He was all like, “Why, oh why would you interrupt my bus book? KEEP READING!”

IMG_2188

There was lots of playing with cars too…

IMG_2202

And the new thing to do at playtime has become climb all over mommy…and I happen to love it! Um, excuse the headband…the other thing about Sundays is I wear really comfy clothes and don’t put on make up…it’s nice.

IMG_2205

Here’s to one more Sunday down and one more Sunday closer to summer vacation!

PS – The Steelers are in the super bowl! We actually relaxed our no tv rule tonight and watched the game even before Logan went to bed. We are so not football people, but thanks to the wonderful EG and her family we always love the Steelers! :) Well, I do…apparently my husband is a Green Bay fan? You see, Grandma K is from Wisconsin…so his loyalties are coming out…and there could be some fights in our house in 2 weeks (and the first super bowl really watched for more than just commercials in…well, since the time I watched Pittsburgh in the superbowl with EG in Pittsburgh…and they won!  That has to be a good omen, right?)!

Awww, Grandma and Grandpa K!

Logan was so excited to see Grandma and Grandpa K today! He did lots of scrunchy faces, Grandma K’s favorite!

IMG_2216

There were lots of hugs and lots of showing off. Grandma and Grandpa were so impressed by how much Logan has changed over the past few weeks.

There was lots of love for grandma…

IMG_2227

IMG_2233

Lots of being chased by daddy while Grandma tried to save him…that ended in lots of giggles!

IMG_2235

IMG_2241

Then daddy took the camera and got a little artistic…while Logan showed Grandma all the spoons!

IMG_2253

Logan had lots and lots of things to show Grandpa! He loved playing peek-a-boo in the tent with Grandpa too!

IMG_2264

IMG_2267

And yum, yum, yum, they brought enchiladas! Logan may have been more excited about the monkeys book they brought him, but Grandma’s enchiladas are so yummy!

We love you Grandma and Grandpa K! We’ll see you soon!

Naughty Monkey…

When I was teaching a reading group today the book had the phrase “Naughty Monkeys” in it (come on JD, you totally know it!). My kids thought it was so funny…after we had dissected the word naughty of course (I mean really, that’s why reading is hard work!).

Well, I came home tonight and had my own naughty monkey. First, he got super messy at dinner. There were blueberries involved. The kid LOVES blueberries. Seriously.

IMG_2196

There was blueberry in his eyebrow.  Oh, and if you look really close you can see a little of that molar coming in on the right side of the picture!

IMG_2197

I mean, this is the kid who HATES getting his face washed. Can you just imagine the agony that this caused him?

IMG_2200

For the record, he wasn’t crying in these pictures…it’s just that whole scrunchy face thing mixed with “ugh, the cloth is approaching my face!”

Oh, but that wasn’t even the really naughty part. No, that came a few minutes later.

IMG_2202

Do you know what that is? That’s my child on top of the coffee table. He started climbing and he hasn’t really climbed much so I wanted to see what would happen. Well, this happened. For about two seconds before I pulled him down, told him no, etc. (which is why you get this great shot, I didn’t want him to think I was encouraging it and I was clicking it super fast and I was walking over – granted, the table is LOW and there is foam or carpet all around, but still, no, I was not just leaving him to fall people, I promise!). Then he proceeded to try about 10 more times. Looks like we have a new favorite game!

We had another funny moment tonight too. When we were reading books before bed we were reading Where’s Spot?  It’s one we haven’t read in a while. Well, each page says something like, “Is he under the bed?” And you lift up the flap and it says “No…” and shows some other animal there. Well, I would read the page then Logan would lift the flap and I would say, “No…” and the first time he fussed a little…the next page I did it and he started bawling! I couldn’t figure out why. Then I realized, the kid hates the word no. Every time we say it to stop him from doing something he gets upset. Because clearly, we are just meanies. So the poor boy kept thinking I was telling him no, don’t lift the flap! I felt so bad. I had to go back and read it again and change the words to , “He’s not there!” and it was all better.

Don’t worry, in the reading group book the daddy loved his “naughty monkeys.” I happen to love mine quite a bit too!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Thankful on Thursday

Sometimes I worry too much (Let’s all laugh…I know, such a revelation! I am learning more about myself everyday!).  A lot of times I don’t sleep very well. I’m not exactly sure if it’s because of my worry/anxiety, but I know when I can’t sleep my brain starts going into overdrive with the anxiety stuff. This happened A LOT when Logan was first born. You think I worry now…HA. I’ve learned a lot of techniques over the YEARS (oh mom, dad, bestie, KJ…how I love you for putting up with all these years!) to help me calm down. One of the ones that I relied on most when Logan was first born was focusing on all of the things that went well that day, repeating the positive things over and over. And that’s still a big reason I do Thankful on Thursday posts. Sometimes I get too wrapped up in the worry and need a reminder of all the wonderfulness that is my life.

So for a week when my worry seems to be a bit in overdrive, I am thankful for…

  • The hubby getting up with Logan this morning at 5:30. I was awake, but he went to get him and I got to listen to them chat in the kitchen and just enjoy 30 minutes in bed by myself until the time I actually have to get up, 6:00…no, I did not go back to sleep, my body has a hard time doing that!
  • Snow day! Snow delay! Extra time with Logan!
  • Grandma and Grandpa K are coming to see us this weekend, and we’re always thankful for that!
  • Blogs. Seriously, every night (well, almost) I take 30 minutes for myself and blog and read other blogs…and I need those 30 minutes, for me.
  • My Kindle! I really didn’t know if I would like it, but I do!
  • The little things that I get to do with Logan…we went to get the mail today when we got home. Usually I carry him after I get him out of the car seat and we walk to the mailbox, but today I put him down and held his hand to walk (um, the street is like RIGHT there!)…he is such a big boy and was SO excited. It always helps when there is junk mail that I can give him too!

In other news (and because the grandparents need pictures!)Logan decided to help us clean up tonight before dinner…

Um, clearly we need to give him a few more lessons, seeing as how he’s using the handle to sweep. But he does know that all the crumbs are under his high chair!

IMG_2178

Quite determined!

IMG_2184

This is the face he’s going to give me in ten years when I ask him to sweep the floor…

IMG_2185

Cheesing it up for the camera!

IMG_2187

Friday is almost here! We were hoping for some snow but it’s not looking likely (Seriously people, if you’ve never worked in a school…you have no idea how insane we teachers get this time of year. We can’t be happy with a snow day…no, we always look to the next one, we’re always hoping…it is unreal!). The good news is Friday is jeans day and always feels just a little bit better, ya know? Hope you have a good one!

Everyday…

Everyday I fall just a little bit more in love with my Logan. I thought the newborn stage was my favorite. Then I thought six months was great. Then 10 months. But now? I just love it. Forgetting about all of my worries and just enjoying him, that makes for fabulous times.

Grandpa F picked Logan up today because I had a dentist appointment. When I went to pick him up he was SO happy. He was just running around, hiding behind chairs and playing peek-a-boo with us, and every single time Grandpa would hold his hands out and say “Can I have a hug?” He would go right up and give him a hug. Just.So.Cute.

Don’t you agree?

IMG_2166

(And um, seriously? There are a lot of toys on our bathroom floor. He hangs out in there while I get ready, while his bath is running, etc…today at my parents I went into the bathroom and closed the door behind me, and Logan started getting upset and I said “Hey, sometimes, I like going to the bathroom by myself!”)
Logan demonstrated his basketball skills once again tonight, this time in the bathtub! Grandma and Grandpa K got him a basketball hoop for the bathtub for Christmas, and he’s loved it! You can’t see his face in the video, but you see his incredible skills, that’s the important part (plus, I never get to take videos in the bath and put them on the blog because, well, I’m not up for the whole internet seeing ALL of Logan…so this way he was not all exposed!).

Only 2 days left of work! I could get used to these 3 day weeks!

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

Snow Day!

Three day weekend turned into four day weekend…doesn’t get much better than that! Here’s Logan’s dance of happiness (um, the camera moving a lot may or may not be because I was dancing too…)

All right, all right…so 2 weeks off like we had last February would officially be better than that. I still have hope for this February, but I’ll take the extra day today! It was icy last night, and stuck around for a while. We got really lucky and they called the day off last night around 11…I got text messages from other teachers, called the bestie…and then was wide awake! Unfortunately Logan did not get the memo in time and was wide awake at 5:20…but I did get to nap when he napped, so that helped!

Unfortunately, the ice did stick around until 12 or so…so we were stuck in the house all day. It’s a lot harder to be stuck in the house with a 14 month old than with a 3 month old! :) He did great today though, we changed rooms enough that he was quite content. Proof…

IMG_2164

He is quite proud of himself because he has learned how to get on and off his little riding toy by himself, and how to make it move with his feet…good thing we’ve had some vacation days to practice!

Back to the grind tomorrow, but kiddos for only 1/2 a day  because of parent conferences. Should be a pretty easy week (knock on wood, as always!)!

Play Day!

Logan and I have the day off today. Sadly, Peter had to go to work (this is just crazy to me, that some people aren’t off for Martin Luther King Day!). He started the day off with a bang and slept until 6:20! Fabulousness!

I knew we couldn’t stay around the house all day, so I decided we’d go to the mall because I thought he needed new shoes, and then we’d play at the “playspace” there. He was way too little over the summer, but I figured now that he’s walking it would be perfect.

Well, first the shoe store was CROWDED. Then when they did get to us and measured his foot…he didn’t need new shoes! When we bought the ones he has now he was just almost at a 4…so they suggested we get 4.5 well, now he’s almost to 4.5 but not quite. So she suggested I wait another month. She said I could buy them now, but knowing my luck he won’t need them until spring and then we will need more spring type shoes.

So then we went to the play area. There were quite a few people there…and quite a few that were taller than it says you can be. Basically it’s just a big area with a foam floor and some things to climb on like trains and little slides, cubes, etc…and all those are pretty foamy too. But older kids (6 or 7 year olds!) kept jumping ahead of Logan on everything he wanted to try. He’d get one foot on a ramp to go on a slide and they’d come and jump on it. Ugh. Annoying. Especially because of course their parents were nowhere to be found.  We lasted about 10 minutes and then he found the stairs out…and climbed them, so I took that as a sign! I think he’ll be at a much better age this summer.

After our uneventful trip to the mall (I bought a Diet Coke. That’s it.) we headed home. I made Logan his first pb&j…but with sunflower seed spread instead of peanut butter. We’re waiting until 18 months for nuts, but the sunflower seed spread is pretty cool! It tastes a lot like peanut butter. I decided to document it – of course!

I still get a lot of scrunchy smiles when he decides to ham it up for the camera!

There were some very, very messy hands as a result of the sunflower seed spread! I didn’t even try to wipe them, we just headed right to the sink!

Check out all those teeth! He’s officially got 7…although when he was opening wide today I saw his gums at his molars and WOW, those molars are about to break the gum line! He has the little “holes” that come first!

He finished the meal off with a WHOLE banana (after he had pulled his bib off, his new favorite trick…). He loves to get to eat the banana with the peel on it, big boy style!

I also managed to catch him saying “Shhh, shhh, shhh…” during lunch. Adorable! You have to turn the volume up to hear it…it is cuter when it comes with the bus page, but hey, still cute!

He’s napping now…then I’m sure we’re back to playing!
