Sophie

Seriously. WHAT the heck is up with Sophie? I’m assuming you all know Sophie – the giraffe that Logan got when he was a baby. If you aren’t familiar with Sophie (who am I kidding, 90% of the people who read this have actually held this very Sophie) she is pretty much a dog toy. She is the “IT” toy of the moment for infants. She squeaks when you squeeze her. She is rubbery. You know, what every kid dreams of. 
Only, apparently? It IS what every kid dreams of. Both of my children have now gone totally nuts over this thing (as has my husband apparently, since he took pictures of her eating birthday cake with us).
Here is what really, really creeps me out about Sophie. Many, many moons ago? Sophie…

And Sophie just a few weeks ago…

Her spots? They are slowly disappearing. But here’s the question. WHERE are they going? Are my children ingesting giraffe spots? Is the sun sucking them up? She does spend quite a bit of time in the car. Maybe Sophie needs sunscreen?
Clearly we can’t have a third child. Sophie will be naked by then.
PS – Holy identical children, Batman. I know.

Thankful on Thursday

• My parents, for picking up the kiddos and taking them to play for a little bit today. Logan has been asking for them to pick him up from school for a week now, and he was SO excited!
• Bestie and Baby Bestie for coming to play yesterday. I am a bit lost at school without her (and everyone else…you all know who you are…but I love you anyway) but I’m SO glad she is so close to us!
• Aubrey is continuing to sleep a bit better (FURIOUSLY knocking on wood). I am not kidding, that 4 month wakeful business almost did me in.
• Logan making me laugh – every new thing he discovers becomes THE thing. Today it has been, “That’s electricity mommy? That one? And that one?”
• Plus? I still cannot get enough of when he says "A little blit” for “a little bit”.
• First graders for trying their best. I love seeing them when they are SO proud of themselves for something.
• Aubrey is still getting mostly breast milk all day and I’m still nursing. She gets 1 bottle of formula at daycare, the other 2 bottles are breast milk. I am trying really hard to allow myself to not be so black and white about the whole issue. Interestingly, with Logan it was about him having the breast milk, with Aubrey it is more about the fact that I do not want to have that LAST nursing session. I’m assuming it’s because she is my last baby (well, with 99.8% certainty).

All right, that’s all I have up my sleeve today! Happy almost Friday!

Day 1, Done!

Well, the first day of this school year is in the books! I have 26 kids and it is a FULL room. I can’t believe one year I got up to 29. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen again. My kids seem really nice, there are just a lot of them – which makes a lot of movement and a lot of noise. We have a bit of rule learning to practice too, but they’ll get there!

Now, for the real excitement of the day…

BUT – Aubrey pretty much slept through the night last night! She went to sleep at 7, I fed her at 9 one last time…and she slept until 5:15! Holy smokes! She ate (uh, good thing, because my body is NOT used to her going all night without eating!) and went back to sleep and was up for the day at 6. She knew today was a big day!

Um, but of course I woke up at 3 (see body not used to sleeping baby) and got so excited she was still asleep (after I made sure she was still breathing) that I couldn’t go back to sleep.

Now, this is never, ever going to happen again. Not for months and months at least. But, let’s remember this one day, when all the stars aligned.

On to day 2!

The River!

Logan was SO excited when we told him Uncle Brian and Aunt Kim invited us down to see them at their river house. He heard there was water, he heard there was a boat, and he was in.

The drive down should have taken 2.5 hours. It took 5! There were some interesting moments, including Logan getting carsick (I have learned to be prepared with a bag!) and major traffic, but we made it!

Logan had to get in the boat (canoe) right away! I don’t do water. Really, I don’t. I have been canoeing before. I have even been kayaking before. I don’t dislike the actual activities, but I FREAK OUT with worrying about falling over and what is in the water. Luckily Peter was up for the adventure!

Uh yeah, he was a little excited.

Aubrey and Grandma K were excited to hang out under the umbrella and watch the excitement!

Off they go! Logan paddling was just too too cute! Grandpa K was in the front leading them off!

It wasn’t an extremely long adventure…but I sure was glad when they got back!

Oh, and believe me…if Logan had fallen in?  I would have certainly jumped in the water with not a seconds hesitation!

Aunt Kim also helped Logan do some fishing!

Aubrey and Samantha also got to meet for the first time. Samantha is 2 months older than Aubrey, and had fun showing her some new toys.

Logan had a great time playing with Aidan and Conner too, the Batman castle kept him busy!

They also surprised me with a birthday cake! I was so lucky!

Aubrey and Samantha had to get some close up face time…it was too adorable!

I love that they look like they are holding hands!

Conner was fascinated by Aubrey’s big eyes!

We had such a great time! Somebody was SO tired after all the fun. Grandpa was a nice rest buddy!

This morning Logan asked if it was a stay home day, and when I told him yes he said, “Can we go back to the river?” He had such a great time. Thanks again for the invite Uncle Brian and Aunt Kim! We can’t wait to see you again soon!

32!

Well, according to this picture it appears I’m only 23…

But at 23 I had no idea how wonderful life would be at 32!

Including, obviously, some yummy, yummy cake.

We’ve had a full weekend, including 2 cakes, a visit to the river, and some crazy car rides. That’s a fun birthday weekend!

Thankful on Thursday

• My parents, for letting us come over this afternoon. I really, really, really do not feel well and their house was a nice change for Logan and let me rest a little more than being at home.

• My team at school. I’ve said it before, but we work together SO well. There are some unique personalities, but we treat each other with respect, and that’s what I appreciate.

• I’m thankful that I’ve had the opportunity to work with an awesome person in our front office, and get to know her as more than just a co-worker. She’ll be so missed, but so thankful she is on to bigger and better things!

• Tissues, I am so thankful for tissues.

• One day my nose will stop running, I am thankful for that.

• So thankful that the kids appear to have a “lighter” version of the cold. KNOCK ON WOOD.

All right, a little slim tonight…but gotta get more tissues!
