Before I Know It…

This kid is going to be driving away!

“Mom, come on, I’ll bring the car right back…”

How will I ever say no to this face (despite the bad lighting…)?

Seriously, how did he get so big?

He was so adorable in his outfit today! His jeans are way too big, but I love the elastic waistband, so I went with it. He’s still swimming a bit in the 12 – 18 month clothes, even in some of his 12 month clothes. But he’s got a belly! His feet are also growing a lot. I had to get him new shoes for school today (those slipper sock ones) and I don’t think new sneakers are far behind.

Today was one of those absolute perfect days. First, he slept through the night! For the first time in forever! 7:30 – 5:45, and he even hung out in his crib sleeping off and on until 6:30. Heaven! Then we played all morning and he was just beyond happy. Target trip, still happy. Lunch, happy. Before his nap I was sitting in the rocking chair with him and we had 15 minutes of giggles, reading, and snuggles that were just too cute. He went down for his nap great and slept for 2 hours, which meant I got to make 2 dinners for this week (new recipes). He woke up a little cranky but cheered up quickly and was happy, happy, happy all afternoon. Then tonight we went over to the H’s house and he was great. At first he was really shy, but he warmed up and was all over the place, playing with the girls, showing off, it was great.  He went down to sleep easily and I’m hoping for another good night!

It was the kind of day I’ve needed for a while….and the kind of day I need to remember for a while.

Dinnertime!

I think over the course of this blog there have been approximately 297 pictures of Logan in his high chair. Eh, it’s an easy place to take a picture. He’s still and his attention is focused on me.

I keep wondering when I should start having Logan try to use his own spoon and fork. He does a great job picking up his food with his fingers and is fine with me feeding him…but I’m thinking at some point he may need to eat with something besides his fingers! Here’s a look at how the experiment went…

First there were lots of scrunchy, happy smiles…

 

He knows the spoon is supposed to go in his mouth, that much he has down!

But keeping the actual food on the spoon as he brings it to his mouth, not so much.

It’s clearly much easier to pull up the bib and just eat all the food that falls in there!

He decided to try putting the spoon in the bowl AFTER all the food was already dumped out!

I love this expression! “What happend? Oh well, sorry mom, we’ll try again next time!”

Thankful on Thursday

We’re almost one week into the New Year! We’ve had a pretty good start to 2011, especially if you think about that whole perspective thing I talked about last week. Life? It’s pretty good. But, I always love my Thankful on Thursday posts, to remind me just how great it is…here’s what we’re thankful for this week!

• Logan not caring about fashion yet…the poor kid’s pants are always too long, or his waist is too little to keep them up! Tonight I finally gave up and rolled them up like 3 times…so he’s sporting his awesome slipper shoes, socks, and high waters. Love it. So will his prom date, I’m sure…

• A husband who likes to play with his little boy. I’m not quite sure who likes the tent more!

• A boy who is starting to show that he is all boy…he likes to throw things, drop things, smash things…the coffee table is his latest race track!

• A cat who is SO tolerant of this creature that appeared in her life 14 months ago! Logan has lots of toys that have pull strings on them, and he LOVES to give the strings to Abby to play with. I got this video of him “playing” with her tonight…

• We’re also thankful for weather forecasts…which give a teacher hope. If only for a few hours!

Wordless Wednesday

Sorry internet world, I have papers to grade. But for your viewing pleasure, Logan’s latest dance move…

It’s the latest craze to hit the club circuit, slipper socks and all.

And yes, I am never actually wordless. The better you know me in real life the more you know just how true this is! :)

Back in the Groove!

We’re back to work and school and doing pretty well! Logan had a great day at school yesterday and today and hasn’t been coughing at all (knock on wood!).  I give it about 2 weeks until his nose is running again…

We had the worst night of sleep yet on Sunday night. It took forever to get him to sleep, then he was up 4 times…10:30, 11:00, 1:00, and 1:30 – 4:30. OH MY WORD. From 1:30 – 4:30 he wanted to play, play, play. I got about 2 hours sleep and was a complete zombie on Monday. So last night I decided it was time to take some action. We’ve never had to do major cry it out stuff, but when we did it worked wonders. So, last night we put him down at 7:30, and yes, he cried. We went into console at 5 minutes, then 10 minutes later he was asleep. And stayed asleep until 11, when he cried for 2 minutes (my middle of the night limit is 5 minutes, period…unless he’s been sleeping really consistently and then one night randomly wakes in the middle of the night, because to me that means something is wrong and I go in right away). At 2 minutes he went right back to sleep. Then at 3:00 he woke up again, for all of 30 seconds then was back to sleep until 6:45. Which means he slept 11 hours and oh, did he need it.

I hate even writing that we let him cry, but honestly, he needed it and it worked. He’s not a little tiny baby, he’s a toddler who knows that when he cries, I come back, and I mean, come on, who wouldn’t want someone to rock them to sleep? It isn’t the initial rocking that I mind, I love that…it’s the fact that he needs that to get back to sleep in the middle of the night too.

Anyway, hopefully this will be good for a while. Well, until he’s sick again! Because I’d never do it when he was sick, but we certainly all felt better today!

Tonight when I got out the camera to take pictures during playtime I didn’t realize Logan’s face still had sauce on it from dinner! There’s even a little sauce on his eyelash…oops! He was pretty excited to eat spaghetti! I love this picture because he’s holding a book out to me to read (Wheels on the Bus is REALLY popular right now!).

Then he decided he’d try to clean up a little…didn’t work!

Logan is becoming quite the athlete! He is really into holding and throwing balls at the moment…here’s a really short movie of his latest throw – what an arm!

Eh, you get the point…he listened once, when I told him to get the ball, that’s good…he threw it…he didn’t listen the next time, because there was another fun toy calling his name…that’s a toddler for you I guess!

Fingers crossed for another good night of sleep!

Boooo…

“What? We have to go back to work tomorrow (how the heck did he get that bruise?)?”

“I don’t wanna!”

“Oh well, back to saving the world. That’s what I actually do all day at school while mom and dad work. I’m Spiderman’s apprentice!”

Alas, we go back to school and work tomorrow. Boo. But hopefully we will get some snow soon and a surprise day off! A teacher can dream, huh?

Logan is doing SO much better. Now we just have to start to tackle this sleep thing again, starting at square one…but not for a few more days when he is completely done coughing and all that. We’re hoping he remembers that we have to go to work tomorrow and treats us to an easy night tonight!

A New Years Present!

We were lucky enough to spend new years with some of our favorite people, the bestie, and M and BR. Sadly the bestie’s other half was sick, and I’m sure he was just devastated that he missed seeing the NKOTBSB reunion on Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Years Eve special! Logan spent the night with Grandma and Grandpa F (and was up at midnight…sorry Grandma and Grandpa!) but still managed to get a present out of the deal!

B and MR were too kind as always and sent us home with Logan’s Christmas present. I had to tell him I really do think this is the end of the presents!

“More? More?”

“Dad, I’ve got this under control…”

“See, I totally have the hang of this tearing thing now!”

“Look! A whole bucket of things that MOVE!”

“A helicopter!”

“A train too!”

“Let me just see the whole bucket. WOW!”

“You can make a whole train!”

“AHHH! Attack of the train!”

“Guess what M and B? We went out to dinner and mommy even let me take the plane with me!”

“It made for a great quiet toy at the restaurant!”

“Oh, it was just perfect, thank you so much!”
