Logan’s New Best Friend

Grandma and Grandpa K came to see us today! We had a great time. As a bonus they even entertained Logan while Peter and I took a nap!

But the best part of all was what they brought Logan…

BUS! BUS! BUS! He was so excited.  I had just said to Peter this morning, “When we go to Target today (um, of course) we need to see if we can find a school bus for Logan.” They read our mind! It was a complete hit, of course.

Now the poor kid just has to listen to me trying to get him to say bus every time he picks it up.

We’ve had some weird sleep here this weekend…my normal 2 – 3 hour napper has only taken 45 minute naps this weekend. It did at least leave him tired at 7:30 tonight, despite the time change. But he just woke up screaming, and I had to go help him get back to sleep. I’m hoping it’s not a sign of things to come tonight! And I’m predicting his normal 5:15 wake up tomorrow…it was 6:15 today, but I don’t think we can fool him again!

Have a great start to your week!

Come On, Spring!

Logan and I took a trip to the Tot Lot today…it was about 60 degrees still at 5 o’clock, and Logan was quite excited to get outside. We’re ready for more days like this!

Ah yes, the too short pants again…good thing it wasn’t too cold!

We are anxiously awaiting the results of the time change. He went to sleep at 7:30…we’ll see what happens!

Friday Night Leftovers

leftoversbutton
Ah, time to get rid of all the randomness in my head…
  • We have totally failed at trying to get Logan ready for the time change. We had a plan to put him down 15 min. earlier every couple days working up to an hour earlier on Saturday, so it would be the same time after the change. HA. Didn’t work. My kid is programmed to go to  bed at 7:30. He doesn’t do change. We’ll see what happens Sunday night!
  • Oh my, the earthquake in Japan…natural disasters scare me a whole lot more now that I’m a mom.
  • On the other hand, I am also a lot better about realizing there is WAY too much to worry about that I CAN control, so I have spent less time worrying about things I can’t control.
  • Logan has taken off his shoes on the way to school and on the way home every day this week. He thinks it is hysterically funny.  Clearly he has the hot feet that run in my family.
  • I made another new recipe tonight! I mean, two in one week people. That’s impressive! I used chicken instead of beef for this one. We really, really liked this one, and easy peasy!
  • Hubs and I ate popcorn for dinner last night. Clearly not as impressive. Hey, at least I fed Logan real dinner!
  • I finished Room last night.  Loved it. Now I get to start a new book tonight. I love the excitement of a new book!
  • I totally put our name in for the Easter Egg Roll Lottery. We’ll find out March 17…if we do win it will be the wildest thing ever!

Thankful on Thursday

March is a L-O-N-G month in teacher land. No holidays, no workdays, and no snow…but almost 2 weeks down! Spring break is getting closer and closer…here’s what we’re thankful for this week:

  • Hot chocolate – but not for the reason you think! I did an experiment with my class today to see if things dissolve faster in cold water or hot water. Each child gets to try it with some hot chocolate. They.were.so.excited. I have done the experiment for 6 years and have never had quite such a spectacular reaction. Perhaps the reason I love this class so much is that they are just as dramatic as me!
  • Talking! Here’s Logan’s list right now…                            words: mama/mommy, dada/daddy, cheese, shoe, baby. Animal sounds: monkey, cow, dog (kind of)…                    Signs: please, milk, finished, up, more. We are moving along!
  • Hubby worrying so much about Logan when he fell. He is such a great daddy!
  • A friend at work who came in to talk/vent with me today, and it was just what I needed! :)
  • School buses – Logan is in love with them. We see a TON when we are driving to school in the morning and he gets so excited I always think he’s going to burst right out of his car seat. We usually see them just about the time he needs a distraction!
  • Daylight Savings Time – It’s coming! Woo Hoo! I cannot wait for it to be light longer!
  • On that note…blackout curtains! I am convinced they help Logan nap well (knock on wood, of course!). Without them bedtime would be a little rough as it stays lighter longer!
  • And finally, our raingear! Logan just got a raincoat from Grandma F and I got some rain boots from Grandma and Grandpa K. We certainly needed them today! I had to bust out the camera to take a picture of him before we left for the day…he looks so big in his raincoat!

Another Milestone Down!

I’m not quite sure what order I should tell this story in, but hopefully it turns out to make some sense!

Our little Logan has become quite the active toddler. He is RUNNING all over the place. And he is now climbing on everything. Not just occasionally, but all.the.time. And he is always quite proud of himself.  Observe this latest adventure on the couch…

So Peter and I have really had to come to grips with the fact that we can’t stop him from climbing everything anymore. The coffee table? No, he cannot climb that whenever he wants. But the couch? We have to relax and let him do it. Because he just wants to get on it, which is what we do all the time (Well, we SIT on it…not run, jump, etc. You know, usually.)

Here he is showing off his skills…

Oh, we have to push the coffee table up to the couch because it has drawers that he likes to play in…tonight we kept it pulled away and just steered him away from the doors, so it can’t be used as a stepping stool!

So Saturday when my mom was here seeing this crazy monkey, she asked if he had a really big fall yet. The answer WAS no. He’s tumbled when walking, but nothing major.

Then comes last night…I left class and got a voicemail that said, “I think I broke our son.” UH…slightly anxiety prone mother has some minor hyperventilating issues for a few minutes. Then Peter reports that Logan fell off the couch. When Peter was standing right there. He just moved too fast! And he hit the table a bit, but then just the carpet underneath. No cuts, no bumps, but yes, tears.

Oh, Logan…you scared your daddy to death! But he was perfectly fine, reading to Peter, babbling, drinking his milk before bedtime with no problems. And happy as a clam this morning.

So we’ve gotten the first fall out of the way. I’m thinking it’s just the first of MANY more to come! I know they won’t all have the same easy ending, but hey, it’s an adventure, right?

I may secretly be glad I didn’t have to witness the first one…my little bitty baby, falling? Oh, the horror! ;)

2 down, 3 to go!

Class days that is…I had class again tonight, so I have nothing highly intelligent to say, I used up all my brain cells there! Class was really good again, I needed this for a little bit of reenergizing for my teaching. Sitting in a room full of very passionate kindergarten, first, and second grade teachers is always  a little heart warming…

Anyway, just an interesting blog note…I’ve been removing a few blogs from the sidebar here and there. When I started reading blogs regularly two years or so ago, it was mostly people I didn’t know at all. Honestly, all people I didn’t know! I took a few off that are just “big” bloggers that I don’t read a ton anymore, just because, well, I have to simplify my life sometimes. But also because I am getting more people that I KNOW who are blogging! And I love it! I am most certainly counting that I “know” you if you have ever left a comment, even if I’ve never met you.  On a little blog like this one things feel “friendly” pretty quick (Uh, how many more words do you think I can write in quotes today?)!

But of the 11 on the side right now, I know 7! 2 are blog ladies I’ve gotten to “know,” 1 is a friend from college, 1 is my sister-in-law, 1 is a friend from work, and 3 are girls I have known since grade school.  The other 4 are big blogs that I love, so I have to leave those up to.

When I do have more brain cells tomorrow I have a great Logan story to tell you…but you should know he slept until 6am this morning. The latest since January. Heaven!

And a pic, because well, the cuteness you know…

Maybe that’s his Mardi Gras hat?

Have a great Wednesday!

5 Things You CANNOT Live Without

This post is inspired by the lovely Tasha at The Tompkins Family.  Her question was, “What are five things you cannot live without (excluding the necessary things like food, clothes, love, family)?” The disclaimer was necessary of course, because come on, we know I cannot live without my guys, all the grandparents, bestie, friends, etc…but, on to my five things!
  • Diet Coke. The truth is I can completely live without this. I didn’t have any the whole time I was pregnant and nursing. It was a long 15 months! I usually only have one a day, unless we go out to dinner or something. Honestly, I don’t even keep any in the house on a regular basis, because I would drink it too fast and not drink my water. I love it.
  • My Kindle. Anyone who talked to me before Christmas knows I was really unsure about this. I absolutely cannot imagine life without it now. I have always loved reading of course, and this just makes it SO much easier. One of the things I’m most excited about for vacation is not having to worry about finishing all my books too early – because I can just get more!
  • The Internet. This is sad, sad, sad. But honestly, I love Facebook, all the blogs I read, and the message board I read. I use all of those for advice about Logan, and realizing that my thoughts/feelings/worries are things other people have all experienced too!
  • The video monitor. I love it. I find it hysterical that we didn’t get it until he was about 8 weeks or so because we got a large gift card and thought it might be nice – it wasn’t even on my registry in the beginning!  I  like that when he cries out in the middle of the night I can watch and make sure he gets himself settled and not go in unnecessarily. I hate that we can’t take it when we go on vacation, I am definitely addicted to it!
  • Target. What would I do without my favorite store? I mean, where else can you just go to roam around and find everything? All of their Target brand stuff is so fabulous. They have great coupons. They have really nice cashiers. And people, they can look up my old purchases so returns are a snap.  I love Target.
There ya have it! What can’t you live without?
