So when Logan was first born I worried about his weight all.the.time. He was only 6lbs when he was born, and got down to 5lbs. 10oz. before he started gaining again. And he was full term! It took me a L-O-N-G time to trust that my body was giving him what he needed. I worried so much that we bought a baby scale. It did help, a lot. But I don’t think I really stopped worrying until we moved to pumped milk/formula at 6 months. My supply sucked, so that didn’t help with the worrying either…
I almost went crazy worrying about SIDS until he was about 8 months old. I worried about rashes all last spring.
Then well, we know what I’ve been worried about since then. Literally, since at least last July (because I vividly remember talking to KJ and Trish about it when we saw them before the beach) I have been worried about his lack of babbling/talking. Around 9 months I literally almost lost it. There were 2 weeks there that I thought something was really wrong. I had prepared myself for everything imaginable. I made the bestie promise me that no matter what it was, he would be fine. I played the “what if” game…and came to realize that it really didn’t matter, nothing would change the way I loved him. I relaxed a little. Not really.
At his 12 month appointment, the doctor wasn’t concerned. He was babbling a little, but no words. At 15 months, we still really only had dada, and the doc was a little more concerned…but said we’d reexamine at 18 months and then get him evaluated if necessary, to see if there was a speech delay. I finally decided, at 15 months, to relax just a little – in three months I figured, we’d be able to get it evaluated. Whatever happened from there on out, would happen.
What happened, around 16 months, was that my child decided to talk.
He now says: mommy/mama, daddy/dada, Adddy (Abby, the cat), bye bye (well, he says da-da, but it’s bye bye), cracker, cheese, fishy, uh-oh, three, shoe, beep beep, baby, hi, and hey. He signs: please, more, finished, milk, and up. He makes these animal sounds: cow, monkey, dog, and we’re very close to pig and sheep regularly, he can make them after me now.
So the bestie once told me all those count as words. I mean, the signs and animal sounds. So that would be 24 if you count the two animal sounds we’re close to. SERIOUSLY? I know many of you have read all my worries about this for months. And so this? This is pure and complete fabulousness.
But you know me…I had to ask my dad yesterday, “What should I worry about now?” Eh, I’m sure something will come up soon enough, it always does!
Until then, let’s enjoy the cuteness that comes from the Target dollar section, shall we?
I was gonna crop out the really dirty shirt – but hey, that’s toddlerhood for ya!
Oh, we had a fabulous play date with our buddy Alexander today! And the best news of all is that now Alexander is going to school with Logan! Woo Hoo! Now the mommies get to work at school together all day while our babies are at school together! :) Of course, I forgot to take my camera out. They aren’t quite at that play together stage yet, but there was this one moment where they were both at the door looking out and giggling and it was SO.CUTE. But hey, the play date was as much for the parents as the boys, and it was a nice, relaxing time, with beautiful weather! Oh, and Alexander has lots of buses. Logan was in heaven.
Teacher workday tomorrow! Time to attempt to get a little organized for the 48 days we have left – but who’s counting? ;)
