Halloween 2016

A fairy princess and an X-Wing fighter pilot!

They had a great time trick-or-treating, but now I have a sick kiddo in my bed - clearly Halloween (or an awful cough) is a lot for Aubrey to handle. 

And, the decorations are already put away! Here's to my two favorite months of the whole year! Bring it on November and December!

Party Time!

Today was birthday party day! I tried to convince Logan to go smaller this year, take some friendsto the movies and then out to dinner, or to take a weekend trip as a family,  but apparently we aren't there just yet. We had a party for his classmates at a local Engineering for Kids, and it was a robot bonanza! I did not get a lot of pictures at all, but there was certainly some fun to be had!

This picture sums up Aubrey's week pretty well. "I'm really mad that my brother is getting all these new toys and fun things and I wake up at 4:45am for the day so I can be extra miserable."

Let us pause to honor the only birthday cake I have ever made myself for my children. I am truly ridiculously proud of myself that I was able to copy someone's brilliant Pinterest idea. 

Battle bots! They made their robots and then got to battle! It was pretty cool. 

We've had better parties I think, and there was some kid misbehavior (not ours), but Logan seemed to have fun and got to see his friends, so that's what counts. And I mean, my cake triumph will get me through the next few days of school with some confidence, so we'll go with that. 

And now I'm going to go make sure my battle gear is ready. I have to teach on a Halloween MONDAY and the day after. Deep breaths.....

SEVEN!

Wel hello there 7 year old!

Someone was very excited to wake up this morning! 

He got in a few early morning presents,  lucky duck. 

Voltron. All things Voltron. There are these lions, and they come together to form the big guy, and he got 4 lions all together between us, Grandma and Grandpa K, and Grandma and Papa F. The red lion is a total pain to find, by we will hunt it down!

He also got the fabulous Cheebacca mask, made famous from that viral video.  I'm jealous. 

He also got a ton of books that he was super excited about, like a good teacher kid. 

Peter and I both had lunch with him in the cafeteria (because I need to spend more time with first graders!). But, special times, and so lucky to be able to do that! 

After school we went to the little pumpkin play space at a nursery near us. It's tiny, but we pass it everyday and they think it is the most fun, so we have it a whirl for the birthday boy! 

After, one guess what he chose for dinner...Chipotle! 

(A certain 4 year old may have been a little jealous...)

Grandma and PaPa F came over with an ice cream cake and some presents, and the big day was complete! 

He has his party with his friends this weekend, we always seem to like to spread out the fun. Thank you to everyone who called, wrote, and sent bday videos to our boy! Seven is a hit so far!

But. You know, I can't stand "lasts", so I took this one as the real last one. 

Because sleeping children get me every time. 

He is sooooooo excited about his birthday! Seven sounds big to me. When you get older than the kids I teach, you are big. He promises he will still want to snuggle with me forever...

Right about this time 7 years ago was the scariest moment of my life - his heart rate dropped while I was in labor. And then it was a blur of people throwing me on my side, moving monitors, and assuring me they could have him out in 2 minutes if they had to. And I was, as I have been ever since,  a nervous wreck. But he taught me it would be okay. 

So here's to SEVEN tomorrow!!!

Weird Weekend

You know that weekend that's supposed to go one way but then just...doesn't? Because a kid throws up everywhere on Friday night at 11pm? And it may be a virus or it may be the fact that daddy was in charge and he ate ridiculous amounts of candy. I'm just sayin.

But anyway, so not what we were expecting. I took Aubrey to dance and she cried so hard that we had to leave class after 3 minutes. 5 classes in, no problems. And then...um? I'm lost? Parenting is hard.

So then, since we had sicky, we didn't do much. Grocery store. I know, contain your excitement. Oh, Aubrey did try some new looks in preparation for our pictures today:

I know, now you are just so anxious to see the final products! Such beauty! I am a little concerned at how well she put on the red lipstick. She wasn't playing around! 

Today we took pictures, pictures, and more pictures. Fingers crossed! And we played some soccer. 

Which stressed everybody out and I just don't get why the kid sooooo loves soccer but soooooo seems to not want the ball. It's baffling really. Parenting is hard, again. 

But they are really super fun and cute too. And snuggly. Really snuggly. 

Thursday Thoughts

I wish I could begin to explain the insanity that life feels like right now. Every little thing just feels multiplied by a million. I know it's everybody's lives and this is kids and work and family and friends and, and, and...but whew. Just, I could use a blizzard right about now. Bring it all to a halt. Force me to stay in pjs and watch cartoons and have no choice.

Until then I will just show you my favorite picture of the moment:

"Hi, yes, I am a giant almost 7 year old who uses my flashlight to read chapter books by myself. Don't be alarmed. I realize 5 minutes ago you were panicking about newborn sleep, and now I justdo my own thing. I swear I still want to live with you until I'm married and think you are the snugglieay ever." 

So, there's that. My children are pretty much just fabulous. 

Pumpkin Playground Time

We are so all about the fall festivals this year! Yesterday we met our fabulous "people" at the pumpkin playground, and had so much fun! The pictures are soooooo not in the right order, and this whole not being able to blog right thing is seriously killing me. I am going to figure this out! But enjoy the lovely pictures of face painting, slides, pumpkins, and wagon rides! We so adore our buddies! So. Wet lucky to have such amazing friends who are our family!
