It Happened.

I got it. The pregnancy fever. I was sitting oh so innocently in a boring  incredibly stimulating staff meeting. A very pregnant teacher was sitting right near me. As in, she is going to have a baby within the week. And it happened.  I thought “Oh! I miss that! I do! Yes!”

Then I thought Ha, ha, ha. Sure. You miss that. You miss feedings every 2 hours. Oh no wait, every hour. You miss the constant worry about your milk supply. You miss the constant worry about his weight. Oh wait, we’re not even talking about an outside baby yet! Oh, oh, that means a whole other list of worries you’re forgetting! You miss worrying about making it out of first tri. Then worrying about everything being okay at the 20 week ultrasound. Then about making it to viability. Then about going into labor in front of 24 six year olds. You miss obsessively doing kick counts. You miss chugging apple juice to MAKE THE KID MOVE ALREADY.  And let’s just be honest, you miss preparing to possibly freak out every single time you go to the bathroom for 39 weeks. Really?

Yep. I confess. I miss it.

But then we run into this whole thing of timing. When the heck should I have a baby? Now, the honest to goodness truth is last time? Last time I worried myself to death (who, me?) about getting pregnant and I got gosh darn lucky. I thought I’d start trying in February, so that maybe by June or July we’d get pregnant, making it a picture perfect school year pregnancy (as in, give birth March/April…perfection by school terms – take time off, plus get the summer!). I also was fully prepared for it to take a lot longer.

Ahem. Someone had other plans. I got pregnant in February. So, what do I do this time? Do I try to time it better for the school year? Do I think about the fact that we would really, really, really like to be in a new house sometime in the next few year(s) and should I time it around that?

I cannot throw caution to the wind and just go with it, because I have some medicines that I have to be off of first…but today’s realization was big.  I’m ready…when I figure all that out.

And the funniest part of all of it? I just loaned all of my maternity clothes to another teacher…hehe! But she’s due in July, so I could have them back in time for any possibilities in the future. For now? I’ll just eat my lunchmeat and drink my diet coke, thank you very much. Oh, and enjoy a certain cutie named Logan.

Then and Now

A year ago we were in the middle of our “Snowcation!” :) I went back to work February 1, and it was a teacher workday. Then we had the next day off due to no heat in our building. Wednesday, February 3, I taught kids for the first time since October. Then, from February 4 – February 17, we had no school! It was totally insane, but an absolutely FABULOUS way to extend my maternity leave a bit!

Here’s Peter shoveling after the first part of the snow…

And here’s Logan from exactly one year ago…as we sat inside while daddy shoveled and I was SO excited for him to try his Bumbo!

Now, how different is this kid, looking oh so in charge of the world?

I also caught a cute little video of him playing with his cars tonight. Yep, kind of boring. But it catches how quickly our little guy is growing up!

We had a wacky night of sleep last night, just after I thought to myself, “Wow, we’ve had solid nights sleep for a month. Unreal.” We had an awful night, up from 11:30 – 1:30 and he had a hard time going down tonight for the first time in a long time. I managed to get my finger on his upper gums when I was brushing his teeth tonight and I can feel his upper molars, so I’m wondering if he might be doing a little more teething. Here’s hoping we have a quieter night tonight, I’ve been way too spoiled!

Finally!

We finally got to go for a wagon ride today! It was so nice here. Well, relatively speaking! Grandma and Grandpa F brought Logan back to us around noon and I stepped outside with my workout shorts on…and was like wow, this isn’t bad! I mean no, it wasn’t shorts weather. But I was surprised my legs didn’t feel like they would freeze off after 3 seconds. So after Logan’s nap we ran out to take a walk in the wagon.

I would have loved to get a better picture, but every time Peter stopped the wagon for a second Logan got so mad! So this is what we got while we were moving. We tried to go to the playground, but it’s still snow covered. And by the time Logan woke up from his nap (3 hours later, and I woke him up!) it had cooled off a little. But it was still nice to get out and get some fresh air!

Logan had a nice night with Grandma and Grandpa F. He slept all night for them, and didn’t wake up until 5:45. I find that so amusing, considering that it would have been perfectly fine with Grandpa if he had woken up earlier, since he’s always awake so early…but for us he hasn’t made it past 5 in a week!

I really have been surprised about how long his naps have been. Yesterday and today I finally woke him up after a little over 3 hours. I hate waking him up, but I also don’t want it to interfere with his nighttime sleep.

We’re watching the Super Bowl…Logan wasn’t too impressed but he did get pretty excited when Peter started going crazy after a Green Bay touchdown. We’ll see what happens!

I think we may be headed for a FULL 5 day work week. I haven’t done that since early January. Have a great week!

Friday Night Leftovers

leftoversbutton
I’m going to go way out on a limb here and join a blog linky thing. If this were real life I’d be all putting myself out there, shaking someone’s hand, etc. But since it’s internet life I’m still putting myself out there, to someone’s blog I don’t know at all, but my bloggy friend Tasha (who no, I don’t know in real life either, but she stepped out on a limb and told me she followed my blog one day a few months ago and I’m so glad!) always does Friday Leftovers, and I always enjoy reading all the “stuff” she has left in her head at the end of the week! So here are my random thoughts…
  • I just want my child to sleep past 6:00am. That is all. It is not going to happen tomorrow, I need to come to terms with that. If it does I will stand on my head for 10 minutes. It has been 5am all week and ugh, that is early.
  • Logan is waking up at Grandma and Grandpa F’s on Sunday…sorry guys! :)
  • My child can read. He read the word “boo” today. Seriously. Crystal clear. His brilliance is now confirmed.
  • Logan’s on one of the “down” times in toddler eating. I know they have peaks and valleys. And this valley is annoying. He wouldn’t even go for the oranges tonight, so I figured he just wasn’t hungry. Trying to remember he is FINE.
  • I am reading a book to my class (Superfudge, love, love, love Judy Blume!) and the mom talks about how she’s sad her son is growing up, and I literally almost cried in front of my first graders. They were quite amused.
  • Speaking of, one of my students will not stop rubbing my feet when she is sitting in front of me in my rocking chair. I may have to assign seats on the carpet to get a break from the foot rubs!
  • I asked my kids today if The Jetsons still comes on tv. Surprisingly, they told me it does. I was quite excited to hear there are still some wholesome cartoons left. And I so thought by now we’d be living like the Jetsons.
  • We are going on a 15 hour car ride with an 18 month old. We are insane.
  • The basement needs to be put back together SO badly. It’s amazing how much more stuff we have that needs “storage” since having a baby!
  • Bed bugs scare me to death. No, I do not have them. But the nurse at school got an email about them today which makes me feel like they are close. And ick, itch, itch, ick!

Thankful on Thursday

Here’s this weeks list!

Everyone is healthy! Grandma F only had the bug for about 9 hours. Whew! Now we just all need to stay healthy. Someone had a runny nose tonight. I am pretending it did not exist.

And the big thank you this week goes to Grandma and Grandpa F for their 2am trip to our house to get Logan. Incredible.

A teacher workday! In which I got no work done! But I did get to go out to lunch for a change and it was delicious Thai food. Yum!

Logan’s dancing. Seriously, I just cannot get enough of it. He puts his hand up and totally looks like a rapper. I love it.  I am constantly trying to get more video of it.

The hubs for taking care of me when I was sick! He did a wonderful job of taking care of a stubborn sick person.

Always thankful for moments like these:

And I’m thankful that Grandma and Grandpa K gave me those great red pajama pants a few years ago. Since they’ve made the blog twice in the past month, yes, I clearly wear them a lot. They are way comfy!

Tomorrow’s Friday! :) No snow days this week…there’s always next week! I’ll hold on to this hope until at least March. Well okay, let’s be honest…April. ;)

Our New Child

Here’s today’s picture of Logan for the grandparents:

ChipmunkEastern06

See those puffy cheeks? That’s my child, the chipmunk. Um, and long finger and toenails when I forget to clip them, but that’s another story.

From the time that he started eating more solid food Logan has always had issues  with “storing” food in his cheeks. As in we’ll be at the playground thirty minutes after lunch and I see something green in his mouth…and it’s a piece of green bean from lunch.  I’m not talking about some little piece that got stuck on his tooth…I’m talking the whole bite size piece that I cut the green bean into. Stored away, in his cheek. Green beans, chicken, cheese…I’ve found it all in there. It comes and goes as a problem.

Well, the past two days when I’ve picked him up at daycare right away I said, “You have food in your mouth!” and his teacher said “Yes, he’s started this thing where he keeps food in his mouth after snack/meal” and I said ugh, we’ve been dealing with that at home for a while off and on. His teacher is great, she noticed it right away yesterday at lunch and since he takes a nap after lunch she checked and saw that he had food in there (a problem when going to sleep) so went in to swipe it out…and he bit her! Now, this is not a terrible thing, because well, her finger was in his mouth. It was a natural reaction for him. But no, biting isn’t okay. She wasn’t mad about it. Same thing happened today, with his other teacher. They’ve now developed a system where they BOTH have to hold him so they can attempt to get it out – without getting their fingers chomped on!

Anybody have an idea about how to fix this? We’ve decided to not let him down from the high chair until he swallows everything. And if it becomes an awful debacle then we’ll just take it out of his mouth – but he cannot get out of the highchair until there is no food in his mouth.

I mean, I promise I feed the kid, he has no reason to store food away…and I’d really prefer not to change his name to Alvin!

Breaking All the Rules

Peter is still quite under the weather, so I had a rather spunky Logan to contend with on my own tonight.

“What? I can’t climb on the table? Why?”

IMG_2384

“What? I’m not supposed to take my socks off in the middle of winter? People who read the blog think you never put clothes on me? Why?

IMG_2385

“Come on mom, I might as well take them both off…” Somehow he avoided falling backwards after this…that pulling your sock off business is hard work, it gets lots of backwards momentum going when you finally get it!

IMG_2386

This was too cute…after I said “Logan, you really do have to wear socks, it’s cold!” he tried so hard to put them back on his feet…didn’t quite make it, but it’s the thought that counts!

IMG_2387

We are really hoping that Peter starts feeling better! Logan was apparently out of sorts at daycare today and let out a weird burp tonight that had me a little worried that maybe he hadn’t had the virus yet after all, but he went to bed and is sleeping fine, so fingers crossed. It seems Grandma F wasn’t so lucky and is sick now too. Sorry Grandma F! We love you!
